This is a great value 2 cd set with 36 songs by the great Dame Shirley Bassey. For the price this collection is well packaged with a 10-page booklet with colour pics. (but all used in other cds and complete with the "usual" biography). The booklet also contains inaccurate detail. It states that the version of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" is the 1978 version when it is in fact the poor 1993 version from the Sings Andrew Lloyd Webber album. Alone Again (Naturally) is dated 1967 instead of 1976 and The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face states 1982 instead of 1972. Small detail....but why can't they get it right...they are the professionals!! Overall this is a good collection for those who want more than a Greatest Hits cd. Shirley's versions of Killing Me Softly With His Song, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Send In The Clowns, Anyone Who Had A Heart and Feelings are worth the price alone. This is a good collection covering the years 1959 to 1978 plus a few tracks from 1993 that are better skipped. If you are new to the Bassey sound this is a very good introduction.

Shirley Bassey has one of the best voices in the business, powerful and full of colour with rich tones. With the right material and a good producer her work is just out and out classic. And this 2 CD, 36 track compilation has many classics (such as the anthemic `Goldfinger'). However, occasionally she has worked with less worthy material and second tier producers and recorded some tracks which simply do not do her justice (the version of `Don't Cry For Me Argentina' found here).
The producers of this compilation have picked out most of the real classics, and the standard throughout is pretty high. However, a few of the clunkers have been mixed in, and there are a couple of tracks where not even Dame Shirley's artistry can save the day. For this I am docking a star. In all though, a decent way to get hold of the great Lady's best recordings and a few lesser known ones that do not find their way onto 1 disc sets.

Fans of DSB won't be bothered about reviews, they will buy her songs because they love her, and this album will not dissapoint.
It was the subject of a BBC documentary and previewed as part of their 'Electric Proms' series on TV.
This album goes to prove that DSB has one of the most enduring voices in popular music. She started in the 1950s and is still going strong 60 years later. Far from diminishing in tone and quality, her voice has matured with age, like a Whisky, it matures,mellows and gains depth of flavours with age.
Previous albums have had little new content. This one is entirely made up of new content , mainly from young musicians who have written songs especially for her. Some have challenged her but whichever ones she sings she does it in her own inimitable style and the quality of her voice just bursts out.
But It if you want to hear a quality voice.
