How surprising that there are so few examples of literature set in the context of a cricket match. This VHS is a reproduction of Terence Rattigan's drama about a famous cricketer who comes to his final test game (against the Australians - the Ashes). Personal and family issues also come to the fore and these all climax in the final minutes, when the phrase 'Final Test'takes on a number of meanings.
This is an excellent view for cricket lovers, drama lovers, and connoisseurs of British TV in the 1950s. People familiar with 'Dixon of Dock Green' will be happily surprised to see Jack Warner playing the part of the famous cricketer, while Robert Morely appears as a famous poet who idolizes the cricketer (much to the amazement of the cricketer's son).
There is humour, drama, and English post-war culture in this classic. Let's hope they bring out a DVD with lots of extra features!
