Book Description

1 Aug 2013 Ultimate Collection

Thrown out of the SAS for insubordination, Gord Brown spends his dreary, uneventful days on a remote salmon farm in Scotland. Everything changes when he is approached by three Guatemalan Indians, who are desperately searching for a fighting man, someone to mastermind an uprising against the brutal military dictatorship who have massacred so many of their people. Suddenly his life has a purpose once again.

The four men land in Cuba and fly across into the jungles of Guatemala, where they rapidly assemble a guerilla army. But as they approach the capital city, the goverment becomes increasingly threatened by their presence and is determined to annihilate them at all costs...

Review

An exciting novel that is full of inside knowledge... It's time for Gerald Seymour to be recognised as ranking right up there with Graham Greene (New York Times)

Unstoppable momentum (Daily Telegraph)

Moving and gripping. Seymour's chacter are all beautifully drawn. The dialogue is so real you can hear it and the plot is as tight as a drum. It is tempting to say that Seymour is at the height of his powers... He just gets better and better (Today)

1.0 out of 5 stars Misrepresentation 26 Jun 2014

I was very disappointed after purchasing this 2013 Gerald Seymour book to find out it is a reprint of his 1993 novel with a new foreword added, a very cheap trick indeed. Shame on you Amazon/Hodder and Stoughton for ripping off customers like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seymour firing on all cylinders 15 May 2014
By Rick

Having both been to Guatemala and served in the British Army I'd say GS has it down. The foreword on the psyche of the SF soldier isn't necessary, but might be enlightening all the same. I wasn't sure of the principal character's name, though; it did take some time to divorce the former PM's face from the narrative. Unfortunate happenstance that had some comedy value!

3.0 out of 5 stars The fighting man not his best 4 Mar 2014
By Willy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read most of Seymours books and i am a great fan of his but- The fighting man, is not really by far his best. I found that this is the only book of the many that I have read that I got fed up reading. It never ever seemed to get anywere at all. and the ending sumed up the whole dragged out story. The story seemed to be doomed from the startand thats how it finished. the plot just plodded along without any sense. It was the blind leading the blind. sorry but this book was not by far Seymour`s best.
