Product Description

Exciting film tie-in to the huge new $90 million sf blockbuster film from Luc Besson (director of NIKITA and THE BIG BLUE) starring Bruce Willis and Gary Oldman.

In a timeless story about love and survival, heroes and villains, set in a weird future in which anything is possible, THE FIFTH ELEMENT tells the story of an unlikely hero rising to the challenge of battle against the ultimate Evil.
Filled with humour, action and romance, THE FIFTH ELEMENT is written and directed by Luc Besson, the visually-innovative director of LA FEMME NIKITA and THE PROFESSIONAL. The film stars Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman and Milla Jovovich.
Filmed in the highest secrecy at Pinewood Studios in the UK, THE FIFTH ELEMENT is set to be the sf film blockbuster of the summer.

From the Back Cover

Every five thousand years a door opens between the dimensions. In one dimension lies the universe and all of its multitude of life forms. In another exists an element made not of earth, air, fire or water but of anti-energy, anti-life. This ‘thing’, this darkness, waits patiently at the threshold of the universe for an opportunity to extinguish all life and all light.

Every five thousand years the universe needs a hero, and in New York City of the 23rd Century, a good hero is hard to find.

'The Fifth Element', a timeless story about love and survival, heroes and villains, good and evil, is set in a strangely familiar yet intoxicatingly different 23rd Century. The film stars Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman, Ian Holm and Milla Jovovich. 'The Fifth Element' is written and directed by Luc Besson, the visually innovative director of 'Nikita' and 'Leon'

This is an easy book to read - short and undemanding. It is quirky in the style of writing which makes it entertaining, and it does explain some of the aspects of the film that weren't explained explicitly.

For once I have to sadly report that the book is nowhere near as good as the film.
It was interesting to read where such a brilliant film came from, but a bit disappointing.
While reading the book I just wanted to watch the film again.

provides info not in the film and better descriptions of characters and situations. Even if you know the film word for word you will find the book facinating and insightful.
