Susanne Alexander-Heaton's book is a wonderfully uplifting and brilliantly illustrated work of art. Each left-hand page adorns a description of a fairy and his or her message scripted as a poem. These are tips or lessons for how we can better understand ourselves, more fully bond with others, and live in closer harmony with mother nature. Each right-hand page contains an inspiring pictorial of the fairy.

The journey from A to Z celebrates a fairy whose name starts with that letter of the alphabet. Here are but two entries that speak to me (conspicuously absent are the nice script and lavish images that appear in the real book):

***
"H" is for Hillaria:

Hillaria is the happiest fairy you will ever meet,
As she laughs so much she barely has time to eat!
It shocked her that when some humans grow old,
Their laughter decreases over a full tenfold.

Hillaria lovingly says:

"Don't lose the ability to laugh and to play,
Learn to laugh like me more than ten times a day.
Have you taken the time to laugh at all today?
If not, please do and you'll feel better right away!"

"U" is for Uniqueuella

Uniqueuella is a fairy that is very rare to be found,
As he flies with the unicorns way above the ground.
Instead of seeing himself as different or strange,
He embraces who he is and refuses to change.

Uniqueuella's message:

"If people tell you that you just don't belong,
Just say thanks, and go on singing your own song.
You are magical, beautiful, mystical and bright,
So shine out strongly with your unending light."

Author Susanne Alexander-Heaton Teaches,Inspires With FAERIES 10 July 2011
By C. A. Webb - Published on Amazon.com

It's hard not to smile when you think of the innocence of children. They are full of energy and life, and so eager to learn more about the world they occupy.

In THE ABC FIELD GUIDE TO FAERIES author Susanne Alexander-Heaton showcases this desire to learn and also teaches us all valuable lessons that we can apply in our daily lives as well. Combining breathtaking visuals with practical words of encouragement, this book allows you to see how each of us can make a difference in the part of the world where we are.

Loved this book's premise and the message it conveys. Definitely a book that individuals will want to read and enjoy time and again.

The ABC Field Guide to Faeries 31 Dec 2010
By Angus Macdonell - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Author Susanne Alexander-Heaton has done more than just capture the innocence of children and the magic of make-believe with her remarkable book, 'The ABC Field Guide to Faeries'. She's also sending timely messages with it that cannot be repeated often enough, and to a readership that will take them to heart as readily as they do milk and cookies.

Every parent knows that children learn best when their senses are stimulated and their imaginations inspired. The beautiful photographs and illustrations (designed by Chantal Gabriell) in Alexander-Heaton's book are a feast for any child's eyes, offering a spectrum of colours as well as imagery that leave an indelible impression.

The wonderful rhymes that accompany the artwork are easily read and digested. The truths they convey of respect for the planet, self-love, and compassion for others could be considered above some young children's grasp; however, repetition of them throughout the book is an excellent way to guarantee that they'll come across sooner or later as a child develops, and begins to comprehend the meanings they contain.

It's a perfect medium to reach children, who can be so full of hope, joy, and selfless love that they can only benefit by such warmly positive sentiments like those expressed by faery Camilio, "Follow your heart as you go on your way, Then you will find pleasure in every day;" or the empowering message of faery Uniqueuella, "You are magical, beautiful, mystical and bright, So shine out strongly with your unending light."

'The ABC Field Guide to Faeries' is a must-have addition to any children's library, both for the beauty of the book's design features, and for the simple wisdom of its poetry. One further inducement to obtaining a copy is that a portion of the sale proceeds go directly to charitable causes. Susanne's goal is to raise $2.5 million dollars by 2012. This is an achievable, worthwhile endeavour that every parent can support, while giving their children a book with words they can believe in that may also help shape the way they think about and approach their lives.
