Product Description

Product Description

This is one man's unique insight into Britain's crime world and the inextricable web of corruption. It is a revealing story of official corruption and unholy alliances. Arthur Thompson, Godfather of the crime world and senior partner of the Krays, recruited young Ferris as a bagman, debt collector and equaliser. By the age of 21 Paul Ferris had become Glasgow's most feared gangster, deemed a risk to national security. Feared for his capacity for extreme violence matched by is intelligence, Ferris was the Godfather's heir apparent. However when gang warfare broke, underworld leaders colluded with their partners - the police. Disgusted, Ferris left the Godfather and stood alone. Thereafter he was hounded and framed by the security services. Two of the UKs most powerful gangsters tried to have him killed and then framed him. Ferris is now in prison and wants to reveal the unholy alliance between the police and the criminal fraternity.

Coming from Glasgow I knew that the line between life and death was thin, but after reading this I didn't appreciate just how thin it was. The book doesn't glorify this way of life it treats it matter of factly, which is exactly how people in those positions view it. What was more shocking was the case against the Strathclyde Police, where the ends justify the means and we'll get you off of the streets fair means or foul. The reason that I only gave this un-put downable book 4 stars was the honour amongst thieves bit, we never hurt women or children or anyone who wasn't involved, then goes on to describe how in he slashes a stranger in a pub who accidentily struck him.
Well written and to the point, very well worth the read.

No doubt Paul Ferris had a disturbing start to early life with threats of violence towards him. However, as he progresses to adult life he seems to enjoy the havoc he caused with no thoughts for innocent members of the public. While the book was well written and in places horrificly graphic it lost credibility with the contemptuous names of the Police Officers which have obviously been disguised for legal reasons. He lived hard but expected to be treated with kid gloves. Life is not that easy and rubbishes his theory of being intelligent. After all does he expect people to believe he collected counterfeit money in London and had not checked the contents of the box. For those who regard him as a hero they will find this an interesting book and at times compelling. Others will think the law has finally caught up with him.

This book was as much surprising as it was brilliant. I live a stone throw away from most locations and was aware of most goings on in Blackhill. This is a eye openner not just to the seedy underworld but to the gangsters dressed in black who call themselves STRATHCLYDE POLICE. I think Reg McKay does an ok job on the book (but with the information and storyline already there who wouldn't).I've read this book three times and still love it and if you like true crime you'll love it too.
