Tale of a Gutsy Lass 22 Jan 2006
By Jenna
Format:Hardcover
This book was bought for me as a gift and I shall certainly be reading more of Freda Lightfoot's work.

I found this book very real as it describes the struggles women faced at that time in history regarding the introduction of contraceptives. The changing face of the industrial north west is also well portrayed. The author's characters are well drawn and consistent, and she mixes just the right amount of prose with well paced dialogue.

If I have a criticism it would be that parts of the story are little frustrating as a true word spoken in the right ear would have put everything right in a trice, but really that just adds to the yarn in this entertaining book.

As the story unfolds the twists and turns are not always predictable, which kept me turning the pages.

A highly enjoyable read by an author I will look out for again.
