Product Description

"I wish that I had met Ian Pont, the bowling coach, ten years before I did... Ian is an expert in his field and has got some excellent ideas on how to engineer a bowling action." Ronnie Irani, Essex and England

About the Author

Ian Pont was an aggressive fast bowler who played first-class cricket for Northamptonshire, Essex and Kwa-Zulu Natal. Renowned for his naturally gifted, powerful arm, he has recorded the second longest cricket ball throw of all time. Ian works with international and county bowlers and his success at improving bowling actions for speed, straight lines and accuracy means that he is much in demand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast Bowlers Bible 6 Sep 2007
By Dave
Teaching fast bowling is hard as kids all have different actions and different capabilities. This book explains how to teach it really well. Its not just a technical manual from which you have to just copy what the player in the picture is doing, but it explains all the important parts of what makes them bowl faster and what makes them bowl straighter. Well worth a read

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference 22 Jun 2007
An excellent read for all fast bowling coaches and I would recommend all coaches to broaden their knowledge with it. Easy to understand and first class images to back up the theories. I would recommend going on one of the author's courses for the practical experience to back it all up as well.

A first class choice!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a book! 20 Sep 2013

Coach or player, bowler or batter, you should read this book ! Ian uses easy going language and style, does feel he repeats himself but only to re-itterate his point. Well worth the read, for exploitation of your own skills, or to exploit a bowler your playing against!

This is an excellent book for a new or an experienced pace bowler to sharp their bowling action. I strongly recommend that every pace bowler needs to have this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for cricket coaches 9 Sep 2011
There are lots of cricket coaching books out there. This is a must for anyone trying to get to the heart of the fast bowling dynamic. Written by a fast bowler for fast bowlers, with all the tricks of the trade, both physical and mental, clearly laid out. This "Bible" is a must for anyone who wants to pass on (or learn) all they need to know - 5*

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Book! 13 Jan 2011
Having bought this book as a decent medium pacer who has always struggled getting the extra yard of pace whilst still maintaining accuracy, I must say this is as close as many will get to some high level coaching.

Many of the 'old and trusted ' methods the author talks about have been conveyed to myself during my younger days as a youth/colt at Durham and although some worked a treat, others did me no favours at all.

This book breaks with the convention of most of the coaching I have received during my playing and has some interesting new ideas and some things I honestly do think work.

I have tried most of the coaching in the book to do with driving my front hip into my front knee and have found this to show an instant difference. Only a small one, but noticeable all the same.

I would recommend this book for any one wanting to improve their bowling, it won't give us the pace of Harmison or the accuracy of McGrath but I have noticed a difference in my bowling pace during winter nets.

For the sake of a tenner, it's worth a try over the winter net season!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Exceptional 26 Dec 2010
I have read all sorts of books and articles on sporting technique and I can honestly say that Ian Pont's is quite possibly the best I have ever read.

This is why:

It is concise and no nonsense, written with total conviction with all the information you need and none of the unnecessary window dressing. The pictures are good quality and show exactly what you need and the approach is very much correct. Anyone who even thinks about doubting the quality of the manual need only revise it and take up Ians challenge of observing world class bowlers. You will very suddenly discover why the 130kmh bowlers are 130kmh and why the 140kmh bowlers are 140.

All you need to do having read the book is get watching cricket videos and get watching javelin technique videos and you will very quickly discover the training methods that make the pros pro.

I regularly coach athletes in other sports and I must say I have never read a book that has so instantaneously given me a life-changing insight into exactly how things work. Whoever said Ian Ponts' biomechanics were wrong is in themselves incorrect - his analysis is dead on and supported by many biomechanists working in the same field.

Perhaps I am jumping the gun a bit with hyperbole but I genuinely believe that for it's price, for it's content (when read cover to cover) this book is exceptional. Yes, I do conceed that the bit on injury prevention is limited but that said all the knowledge of injury prevention for bowling is limited (I have read a lot of research papers on that too).

If you are going to buy one book as a fast bowler, buy this one, you'll never bowl below 80mph again!

4.0 out of 5 stars So how do you bowl fast and accurate? 23 July 2010
Everyone in our club had been talking about this bespoke bowling manual. I wanted to also join the ranks of the fast, clever and accurate bunch of bowlers so I decided to purchase this book. It makes as one of the best instruction books I've ever read because the best thing about it is that it is suitable for all types of cricketers, all ages and lives ups to it's title as The Fast Bowlers Bible. If you would like to learn how to bowl out-swing, in-swing, seam-up, even reverse swing than this book is a MUST for you. I've already seen a vast improvement in my bowling. Other books I also recommend: Bob Woolmer's Art & Science of cricket ( Cricket Manual ( and A mind for cricket (
