Normally I'm a total book snob (I read English Lit at Cambridge and I've never really recovered). But this book is one of my guilty pleasures - I must have read it more than ten times. It's a great story and very, very well-written. How can it be out of print? What is wrong with the world?

One of the best stories I have ever read. So Plausable it could be true. I have just bought another copy as I have kept loaning out my copies and never had them back. I can read this many times

Recently re-read this for the umpteenth time, and I look forward to reading it again, it is that good. The other reviewers have said it all, so I will just re-echo one comment; how was this never made into a film
