Bob and Liz Blatchford's Family and Local History Handbook has for many years been the genealogical publishing event of the year, and this long awaited twelfth edition is no exception.
The book is divided into two main sections, comprising of useful genealogical articles and a directory. Amongst over 90 articles are essays on subjects from all genealogical and historical walks of life, including articles on the General Strike, British waterways, the Women's Land Army, Suffolk charities, the herring industry, the Age of Enlightenment, the 1911 census, Wiltshire apprentices, the genealogical origins of the Scottish peoples, the history of the handloom weavers of Perth, an atrocious murder from Forgandenny in 1866, Scottish parish listings, and more from across the United Kingdom and Ireland and more from across the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Within the genealogical directory are over five thousand contact details for all the key family history societies, archives, libraries and more within the UK and Ireland that will ever be of use to your research.

The Family and Local History Handbooks provide useful information for both seasoned and new family history researchers. Even if you have only a passing interest in geneology, this book, and its predessors, are full of interesting and useful information and stories. I simply can't recommend these handbooks highly enough. I have no hesitation in giving it 5 stars. You can order the previous issues on DVD direct from the publishers (who are extremely helpful people).

Usually buy this at a Family History Fair, could not go this year,saw it on Amazon, so sent for it!

Maintains the high standards , interseting articles and valuable information that I've come to expect from the handbook. And the 2011 release is just as good.
