Book Description

Oct 2003
The Family Book celebrates the love we feel for our families and all the different varieties they come in. Whether you have two mothers or two dads, a big family or a small family, a clean family or a messy one, Todd Parr assures readers that no matter what kind of family you have, every family is special in its own unique way.

Parr's message about the importance of embracing our differences is delivered in a playful way. With his trademark bold, bright colours and silly scenes, this book will encourage children to ask questions about their own families.

5.0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Kids @ Teens Read Too 28 Feb 2008
By TeensReadToo TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
I absolutely love Todd Parr's work, both in his books and his videos. No matter what subject he's writing about, or speaking about, behind it all is the universal theme of diversity and acceptance.

With THE FAMILY BOOK, children and parents learn that families come in all shapes and sizes. Some families are large, some small. Some all look the same, some look different. Some families have children who are adopted, while some families even have two moms or two dads. Regardless of how your family is made up, all families share some of the same things: they like to hug, they like to celebrate together, and sometimes they're even sad together.

What a great way to teach tolerance! The bright, bold illustrations and easy-to-read pages are perfect for both beginning readers and older children, and the story is even better when read aloud with a parent -- or two!

This is another keeper for your collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book! 31 Aug 2007
Format:Hardcover
My Daughter and I really loved this book. It has wonderful colourful illustrations and lots of different ideas of what families are like. It's quite simple with just a short amount of words but really does get the idea that families come in all sorts of shapes.

Excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars FAB FAB FAB 10 May 2011
By M_Caine
Format:Paperback
I bought this book because my niece (2 1/2) was learning about families at nursery and she was coming into contact with families which were not the traditional 'mum and dad' and asking questions.

I loved this book because it was colourful, simple, brilliantly illustrated and perfect for when kids are a bit older as a first time reader. The illustrations are bold and bright. I found this simple book a great way of opening discussions while being non controversial.

LOVE IT

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, bright book 17 Mar 2009
Format:Hardcover
The Family Book is great for introducing children to all the different kinds of families out there and gives the message 'All families are different and yours is completely normal.'

One thing to keep in mind is that this is an American book so it does refer to 'mom' and 'colors'. If that doesn't bother you too much then it's definately worth buying, it has lovely bright colours that'll please a baby or young child.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC BOOK 24 Feb 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Great for promoting the 'a family is love' ideology.
Todd Parr is great, the words and illustrations are simple enough but with enough depth and meaning to elicit questions and affirmations about what's normal, what's different, and how what's normal for some is different for others.
Perfect addition to ours sons bookshelf.
