Jane Weaver seems to be one of those artists who climbs to the top of the ladder then slips back down the snake at the final furlong. But the admirable thing is she keeps on going as if it were her second nature, and, as this heart melting release will testify, she seems to get stronger and more endearing with every turn. For many fans of her previous four self funded releases this LP will be quite unlike anything else in your collection - is this a good thing? Yes it is. Perhaps an artist holding out for a whopping advance from a big label wouldn't have the, ahem, balls to release a record like this one - but let's not confuse Weavers versatility with bravado or pretentiousness. Weavers latest 'concept LP' is one of the most delicate and dreamlike LPs you'll hear this year while still earning it's experimental badge and appeasing the tastes of her early fans and Mancunian peers. Those confused by the opening drone and poetry intro need to sit themselves in a decent arthouse cinema and begin to appreciate the tension and exitment that has obviously influenced Jane and friends (judging by the alien references in the small print) through this otherworldly session and for the first time in a while I myself have been influenced to seek out another 'seven sisters' via this vital listening experience. Yeah, it's a bit of a fairy tale, but its good to feel young again, and in my case a mixture of Eighties Hawkwind and Weekend fills that gap.

I'm Hooked! Not an easy album to track down especially due to the great press reviews. Bought the American version of this CD after reading great things in The Guardian and Mojo but expected to be underwhelmed yet again, but what a refreshing change. This album seems to bring the sea change that the female singer songwriter market is crying out for and I strongly disagree with P.Hill's 'self indulgent' slur (is that just a phrase that critics use when a pop singer tries to do something genuinely creative?). I don't know what else I can compare this CD to - Hansel and Gretal go to the moon? I suppose i should now check out the Mistie Dixon CD's, if i can find them.

Jane Weaver yet again delivers with an outstanding album, highly recommended.Weaver is an impressive multi-instrumentalist, and she's joined by Susan Christie and Wendy Flower (who appeared in her Lost Ladies of Folk project) and by Welsh singer Lisa Jen in a set that's best when Weaver herself is singing. It starts with a drifting, delicate burst of mood music and then a spoken piece from Christie, but improves massively with the title track, in which Weaver's fragile, unworldly voice is carefully balanced against more muscular backing. The rest of the set veers between shimmering electronica and vocal effects, and more interesting songs from Weaver, including the sturdy and melodic My Soul Was Lost.
