Book Description

For eighteen year-old Gemma, life has never been normal. Up until recently, she has been incapable of feeling emotion. And when she’s around Alex, the gorgeous new guy at school, she can feel electricity that makes her skin buzz. Not to mention the monsters that haunt her nightmares have crossed over into real-life.

But with Alex seeming to hate her and secrets popping up everywhere, Gemma’s life is turning into a chaotic mess. Things that shouldn’t be real suddenly seem to exist. And as her world falls apart, figuring out the secrets of her past becomes a matter of life and death.

    1.0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't recommend 23 Sept. 2013

    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I tried to work through this book but only managed 21%. I really wanted to keep reading but the style of writing just annoyed me so much. Take this for example "If it wouldn't have been for a guy - whose name I think is Jason - scooting past us, i'm fairly certain we may have stood there forever, just starting at each other. But the Jason guy ruined the moment". It just seems very poorly written in my opinion and it seems to be jumping on the Twilight bandwagon. Everything is "crap" or "sucks" or "totally awesome". Unfortunately the writing has put me off completely and I won't be reading any further. Definitely not a book I would recommend, glad it's free as i'd be gutted if i'd paid for it.

    3.0 out of 5 stars Nice idea but ..... 29 Nov. 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book has me torn on whether to continue with the series. It is an interesting idea and has potential to be very good, and in parts it was, however i found the writing style difficult at times. Gemma the lead character frustrated me with her lack of ability to figure out what was going on and the love interest aspect lacked substance, however i think this probably would be explored in later books. As mentioned on other reviews the author did repeat phrases and the ending was disappointing. As it was a freebie I've given it 3 stars, however if i'd paid for it i would have been less friendly.

    4.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 star rating 6 Dec. 2012
    By Katie85
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I do not usually read supernatural books, but I decided to give it a try as it was free. Has to be said that I ummed and ahhed whether to give it a 3 or 4 star rating, because there are positives and negatives, eventually settling on 4 as I am going to buy the other books in the series in the near future.

One thing that I did find was that it was a compelling read. It was difficult to put down and I kept telling myself "one more chapter..." This is probably just as well because when I did put it down and start reading again, I did struggle to think what had just happened. The flow of the story is a bit jerky, although all the twists were unpredictable, so that made the story easier to read. The main female character of Gemma is likeable and you can relate to her, although you do have a tendency to think "why has she just done that?" I did also feel that some parts of the story were underdeveloped, but that maybe because these will be covered more in the subsequent books.

Overall, there was enough to the story to maintain interest and I do want to find out what happens next, but it's not the best executed story.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive!!!!!!!!!!!! 19 Aug. 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Gemma can't feel emotion or remember any childhood memories. Being around the new boy, Alex, seems familiar but something seems up with him and his sister. The more she sees them the more she suspects Alex hates her, but she could never have been so wrong indeed. Having nightmares of yellow eyed monsters must be hard but when you are determined you are seeing them in real life you must be crazy. Too bad she can't find out with Alex suspicious of her every move. Before she knows it she is shoulder length in trouble. I'd hate to be told every fictional creature you have ever read about is real and that you are gonna have to hand over your life to them, yet when it turns down to it, everything rely's on a small purple necklace, too bad she doesn't know that. As her and Alex's relationship grows she learns new things about her past yet she can't help but get frustrated that Alex has been taught to keep everything a secret. Taught that by the father he adores that 'could never do anything wrong'. Thats not a good sign when Gemma has to tell him she suspects its his father behind all the trouble. I can't help but want her to chose Laylen, the only friend she has ever had and the most caring vampire ever, at the same time as wishing Aislin would just confess she still loves him. You have gotta adore Nicholas's personality because its him that makes the book funny. No matter how much you want to scream in his face to stop playing Gemma, you can't help but be impressed by his determination to not change, no-matter how many beatings he gets from Alex and Laylen. :)

    4.0 out of 5 stars AWESTRUCK! 16 Sept. 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition
I have to admit when I first read the blurb for this book I was disappointed however once I completed it I was left awestruck! The story took a totally different direction which I enjoyed! You have unemotional Gemma who is socially shut off. Alex, the mysterious, handsome stranger who shares a weird electrical connection with Gemma. Laylen the trustworthy, helpful vampire. And Aislin the blonde with hidden witch abilities!

I was impressed with the fictional elements in the plot and how Gemma begins to fall for Alex. Alex at first seems like a jerk but he secretly has a unknown link with Gemma and is not all he seems. I liked how the author links the electricity and star power with the two characters. Alex changes his attitude towards the end and I begin to admire him because he truly cares for Gemma however was brainwashed by the notorious villain Stephan. He made MY skin crawl with his riddles and death walkers! Did not know he would take the evil route!

I cannot wait to read the other books in the series and see how Alex, Gemma, Laylen and Aislin move forward!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the series 15 May 2012
    By Chereb
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
My name is Chelsea and i'm 13 years old and i love to read. I love the Fallen Star series because its one of the most exciting books i have ever read,I have read alot of paranormal romance books before and well The Fallen Star series is one of my favourites because it never gets boaring some of the other paranormal romance books i have read gets kind of boaring but so far this book has kept me on the edge of my seat, whenever i feel sad or lonely i open the book and start reading and all my problems seem to disapper and when i finish reading i feel like i can face the world again and yes that may seem overly dramatic but it's true. When i open the book and start reading i become totally ingrossed. One of my favourite charecters is Alex for more than one reason but ill just give you 2 one is because he is portrayed to be a brave and heroic he is also very witty I also like Gemma because she has come a long way from being a person who needs to be protected to being someone who can protect herself.
