Awful, truely awful. I enjoy war films and made the mistake of buying this film. I have a sizeable collection of war films and have the patience of letting a plot unravel. This film is painful to watch, the wooden acting and 'make it up as you go' plot adds to a miserable watch. I can only imagine that the historical consultant was a borrowed gcse student on an easter break.

This is the first time i have felt incensed to write a review and hopefully i'll never have to watch another terrible film like this to feel i have to write another one. Stay away!

I've never felt compelled to write a review of a movie before, but this one is so shockingly bad I feel the need to ensure that no-one else wastes their money on it.

I love WW2 movies, and I can sit through some fairly dire films, but this one takes the biscuit. So what's bad about it specifically; It's poorly acted, has truly terrible sound editing and a music score that's way off the mark. The plot just meanders around attempting to convey some kind of a message and fails miserably. We are even treated to characters being introduced then dissappearing without explanation as to why they were there in the first place.

However, there are 2 points about this film that enable me to give it at least one star.
1. The acting of the German commander was pretty good. Almost certainly because he was a German actor and couldn't understand the director, so just ignored him and got on with it.
2. The 'Making of' feature on the DVD. It's quite funny and shocking to see Ari Taub trying to give excuses as to why this film is so bad. Everything from actors larking around and being written out halfway through, to poor camera maintenance and even the crew setting fire to their lodgings whilst on location.

Do not get suckered in by the favourable comparison to Saving Private Ryan or that it won some kind of award. Avoid The Fallen at all costs.

..Yes truly remarkable. Remarkable that a film this bad gets even a straight to DVD release. Remarkable that someone could compare this film to 'Ryan and even more remarkable that anyone could write a 5 star review of it and expect to be taken seriously - even if you are the director's boyfriend. What a waste of a trip to Blockbusters that was. If you're looking for something different give When Trumpets Fade a go - that's good low budget made for tv stuff.

I have seen some bad films in my time, but this just about takes the biscuit. "Chemical Wedding", for example, is notorious for being 'so bad that it's good' and is quite a laugh when you have had a pint or two. "The Fallen" is just utter tripe. Having a low budget is no excuse - many good films have been made on low budgets. The acting is poor, the music background is ludicrous and the plot is simply unbelievable. A front-line American unit is under heavy German attack in Italy in 1944. They call for more ammunition and a new radio (why they need a new radio is not clear, as the one they have is obviously working). The call is received at base camp, where the men are lazing around in the sun, reading mail etc. The commanding officer, instead of getting everyone off their arses and hastening them, men and supplies, to the beleagured unit, sends his worst men off with a little ammunition and a new radio under the command of a drunken sergeant. On the way to the front, the truck breaks down and the men decide to continue on foot - stopping for a party on the way with local peasants. That was as far as I got, I'm afraid: about 30 minutes' worth. I may watch the rest on a very rainy day. One star only because Amazon asked please rate this item.

I read a review of this film which compared it to "Joyeaux Noel". However, I think that the comparison between "The Fallen" and "Joyeux Noel" is a little unfair. "Joyeux Noel" is not at all bad. "The Fallen", on the other hand, is dire. I'd go so far as to say that it is probably the worst war film that I've ever seen. If you are unfamiliar with any of the cast names...there's a very good reason. I've seen more convincing performances during my son's school Nativity play...from the doll playing baby Jesus. If you want to see WWII done on a low budget, watch 'Saints and Soldiers' which, though far from being a five-star movie, is a lot more compelling than this dross, or, better still, watch the superb 'Band of Brothers'.

Sometimes you wonder if one star reviews are simply from a bunch of people who just don't like the stuff you do, to the extent that it can make you curious enough to take a look, have a listen...Not with this. It's awful, however you look at it. Save your curiosity, please.

I found this film hard to watch because of just how bad it was. Now I am amazed at what they were able to do with such a limited budget, but unfortunately that doesn't make it not crap. The film starts with a horribly unconvincing battle scene, with no element of realism at all. From then on the film is just drab, boring and, well just BAD.

Budding film makers (me included) I recommend you buy this DVD just for the documentary (make sure you have it on the disc you order) as it is very interesting to see how it was made on such a low budget. Consider the film a very boring extra.
