Book Description

20 Nov 1995
An award-winning detective spoof by the author of "Granny". When a dwarf comes into the office and leaves a package, Tim Diamond, the world's worst private dick, is faced with his toughest case yet. And when the office is ransacked, Tim and his too-smart younger brother Nick open the package to discover a box of Maltesers. Nick's quick-thinking saves the Maltesers from Tim's stomach, but can he solve the mystery? Who was the dwarf and why was he murdered only days after his visit? Why is the Fat Man after the Diamonds? And how can a box of Maltesers really be the key to a three-and-a-half million pound fortune? Antony Horowitz is the author of "Groosham Grange" (winner of the 1990 Lancashire Book Award), "Granny" (shortlisted for the 1995 Children's Book Award) and "South by South East". He has also edited "The Puffin Book of Horror Stories", and has written numerous screenplays, including "Robin of Sherwood", "Poirot" and "Anna Lee".

4.0 out of 5 stars Witty and entertaining - a perfect kid's book. 1 Jun 2008
Format:Paperback
Ignore the imbecile whose review will be with mine. The Falcon's Malteaser is a great read: it moves at a fast pace, with humour and drama in equal measure. It is aimed at young children, so the writing is relatively simple, but that is no bad thing.

Overall, a fun and enjoyable book, especially for younger readers.

Wonderful comic novel, full of allusions to, and parodies of, detective films and stories. Like the Simpsons it can be enjoyed by adults on one level, whilst children will still enjoy it without any knowledge of what is being sent up. I read this to my children, 11 and 8, and they both loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Falcon's Malteser audio book 20 April 2012
By Ruthiet
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was a brilliant success on a car journey to France with 8 year old son, and daughters 20 and 18. We were all hooked and it made the journey pass much faster. I wasn't sure when I bought it if our son was going to be too young for it, but in fact he wanted to listen again on the way home - and favoured it over DVD's or playing on his DS!!

The book is definitely a children's book but well written and enjoyable to read. However it would not compel me to read another of the authors books in this series but would recommend the author to my boys aged 11 and 15 to read.
