Product Description

The Fairytale Quest is a fantasy adventure story for children from 6 years of age (possibly read to by a parent) and 12. The main character is an Irish tomboy called Toni (short for Antonia) who is going through a grumpy period in her life because of her parents' divorce and her jealousy of her new baby brother. --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

From the Publisher

Author Anne Fine (of Madame Doubtfire fame) was recently reported as saying that too many of today's books for children have unhappy outcomes. In The Fairytale Quest, real-world issues like bullying, rudeness, jealousy and separation from a parent are touched on sensitively, but the story definitely has a happy ending which sees its main character change from a little brat to a more well-adjusted and unselfish person. At the same time, this is achieved without any hint of patronisation. The action in the story is based on well-loved fairytales with whose characters children will already feel comfortable, while older readers will have fun picking out their old favourites as they appear in the story. The story can be enjoyed either by children reading alone or having their parents read to them. Because of some of the serious issues that appear in the story, teachers will find it useful for classroom reading and discussion. --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

An 11-year-old's review 3 Oct 2009
By Patricia O'Sullivan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The Fairytale Quest, written by Allie Anders, is a story how Toni, an Irish girl, vacations with her family to Kerry and accidentally trades her baby brother for a magical unicorn. Thinking that she was daydreaming, little does she realize that it's not her imagination. She journeys with the unicorn, Oddi, and the giantess, Millie, to find the new name of Rumpelstiltskin, who has entered Toni's brother, Brian, in the Beautiful Baby Contest. When Fairy Godmother cannot work any magic until the new moon, the trio has to discover the magic well to retrieve the power for Fairy Godmother. With woodles and obstacles standing in their way, Toni must complete her quest before the sun goes down or else she and Brian will have to stay in Fairyland forever.

Of course I wanted Toni and Brian to get home safely, but I'm glad the author didn't make the quest too easy. I think Toni's attitude and personality definitely changed on this quest which made the reward even greater. It means that when Toni swapped her brother she had taken him for granted, but you never miss something until it's gone. The Fairytale Quest is also a tale about friendship. The giantess didn't have to help Toni, but she did because Toni was bold enough to stand up to the giantess's husband. Allie Anders didn't just take all of the fairytales and mix them together, she added her own twists and characters. I would totally recommend this book to readers of all ages.

A New Twist on Classic Fairytales 10 May 2012
By Michelle T. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Author Allie Anders has written a magical new fairytale, drawing on the traditions of the classics. While adults may recognize some old favorites woven in this delightful tale, the younger ones will enjoy Toni's adventures in Fairytale Land, where all the characters from other stories live. Wonderfully written and lavishly illustrated, this chapter book is perfect for reading aloud to the wee ones and for reading along with older children. It's very refreshing to see a new author writing true children's literature compared to some of the questionable material that passes for kid's books these days. Five stars!

A wonderful story 16 May 2012
By M. W. Rowe - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is absolutely wonderful. It is probably a little too young for me but that does not make it any the less magical for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the new take on fairytales from beginning to end and would recommend this book to anybody whether they be five year old or fifty.
The characters are believable and easily related to despite the magical setting of the novel and the fantasy genre. I was enthralled from start to finish.
