    5.0 out of 5 stars A VERY REVEALING BOOK! 30 Dec 2012
    Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A very interesting book revealing the day to ady heroism of extremley brave men. Very detailed read and a mine of information and that has lead me and will also others into wanting to read other books in this series.
It just shows how ordinary well trained men in the best army excelled themselves in battle andi so doing were able to lead other men and indoing this was also able to save many others. And the sad thing is that it all came to nothing.
But was a very good read and a future source of information.

    3.0 out of 5 stars It's only ok. 5 Sep 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book has great scope for being developed in to a better version of its self. The stories themselves are fascinating but after reading three or four of them you quickly get bored with the dryness and often poor translation. What would be better would be a more rounded and expanded account maybe with chronological content and background information added. It is a great shame as the individual subjects are worthy of much more than this book offers.

4.0 out of 5 stars just the facts 25 April 2013
    By Arthur
    Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The facts are interesting. For example, p. 190 tells about the only battlefield use of chemical warfare by the German Army in WWII. It is nice that it is well illustrated by photos from then and later. The only problem is that it is not a book of stories, but rather more a translation and editing of the submitted commendation descriptions and so a bit dry with lots of holes to fill in. This is good for historians, not so good for people wanting to feel what it was like to be there.
