Product Description

CD Description

· The BEACON STREET UNION were a highly acclaimed Boston band who recorded two long-out-of-print albums for MGM.
· They were part of what became labelled the `Boss Town Sound' along with bands like Ultimate Spinach and Orpheus.
· This is their highly collectable debut album which has long been regarded as a classic of the genre.

· Produced by New York veteran Wes Farrell, The Eyes Of The Beacon Street Union sold well enough at the time in the States to reach the Top 75 in May 1968.

· TUNE IN is a new Cherry Red label devoted to the U.S. Psychedelic scene of the late 1960s.

May Be The Strongest "Bosstown Sound" Album 27 Mar 2011
By scott charbonneau - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
In recent years the so-called "Bosstown Sound" scene has been reassessed and from a remove of 40 plus years it becomes clear that some of the music, while definitely of its place and time, is much better than it has ever been given credit for. Released simultaneously with the debut efforts from Ultimate Spinach and Orpheus, The Eyes Of The Beacon Street Union easily outshines the other two. Strong songwriting, hard edged guitar/organ interplay and a fair amount of punky energy all combine to make this an album that should appeal to anyone looking to dig a bit deeper into (relatively) obscure '60s sounds. Kudos to Tune In for getting both BSU albums back into the marketplace; the liner notes are very insightful as several of the band members were tracked down to give their side of the story. Hopefully this reissue will give BSU some much deserved respect and appreciation.

A Hidden Treasure 3 Nov 2011
By Michael - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I can't believe this album has only three reviews! It's one of the great releases of 1968, at least as good if not greater than many an album by more famous bands from that year. Certainly, it's one of the greatest finds I've made recently, and it's a mystery to me why this band isn't more well-known. It seems some dismissed them as Boston Sound bandwagon jumpers, while their limited success was not at all due to clever promotion, a fact which is proved in the best way possible, by the music they left as their legacy. If you like late 60s rock, having both their albums is a must.

Finally, Beacon Street Union! 2 Sep 2010
By Kid Byron - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Incredible, inspiring, varied and spectacular first release by the legendary "Boston Sound" group "Beacon Street Union" The sound quality is excellent and each of the 11 tracks on this CD is very enjoyable and interesting. The styles are varied from bluesy ("Sportin' Life") to psychedelia ("Green Turns to Gold") to very Queen like ("Beautiful Delilah") Truly amazing!
