Wow!! 13 Sep 2004
Format:Hardcover
Having read "The Day After Tomorrow" and "The Day of Confession", I had high hopes and expectations of "The Exile". I was not disappointed.

The book starts with a scene from 20 years previous, something initially dismissed by the reader, until at some point you find yourself flicking back the pages to the start when the penny enventually drops.....

It is an ultra-slick novel with the classic Folsom-esque twists, turns and a storyline that fits together in a jigsaw-like manner.

Cleverly divided into 3 sections, the plot builds thicker and thicker without confusing the reader, whilst remaining intricate. I simply could not put this book down and managed to get through the last 500 pages in a single session, without stopping for a break.

If only Mr. Folsom were more prolific!

All in all, highly recommended....just remember - don't read that final page too early!

Surprisingly boring 29 Aug 2007
Format:Paperback
The book starts of all adrenalin and you get a good feeling that this will be one of those books that it's impossible to put down. It very quickly becomes obvious, though, that it's almost impossible NOT to put it down - it drags on and on and on and on and on.... I'm now in my 5th or 6th attempt and am determined to finish it just so I can take it out of the "books not yet read"-pile. Don't bother, please - it's not worth it. Sorry...

Appalling 14 Jan 2007
Format:Paperback
This book is dire. A few chapters in, I was struggling to continue. A third of the way through, I was desperately hoping it might improve. At the end, I wished I'd never bothered. The plot is ridiculous - suspension of disbelief is one thing, but the book continually beats the reader around the head with farcical plot developments. The writing is terrible, and features the immortal chat-up lines "I really am huge, you know", and "I just like to lie back and let the man do the work". The book is a joke - I've never written a review on Amazon before, but I was moved to do so to prevent others from suffering from this travesty of literature. Fortunately, the book is long, soft and absorbent, and is now positioned next to my toilet.

Execrable
Allan Folsom's two previous novels were enjoyable slices of hokum, especially Day of Confession. By contrast The Exile is a truly terrible book with no redeeming features. Read more
