in 1979 these guys must have lived in the studio (channel 1), as all the enclosed albums were released that year, this is along with many other commitments they were involved in. despite this, each disc has it's own sound and identity, and it's own (abysmal - these are a particular low in the history of reggae album covers) replica sleeve. the first 3 are overseen by linval thompson, the 4th by jah lloyd.
disc 1 concentrates mainly on rhythms used by gregory isaacs, from his time on virgin frontline records, and like the other 3 contain 1 or 2 tracks that are also found on 'riddim-sly 'n' robbie in dub', some tho' seem to have had further dub techniques applied (i.e. dubbing the dub). as a whole the playing of the genre's best known rhythm section is brilliant, almost hypnotic in places, and is both inventive and completely in synch (be all that time in the studio, probably), no surprise that their talents were in demand, even outside of reggae music. fitting that they should have a set to themselves, as this was an lmportant time in the development of dub, and the material within is indicative of the era. stylish and groundbreaking.
