Biography by David Jeffries
Dubbed the "First Lady of Crunk & B" by the producer who should know, Lil Jon, singer Ciara burst onto the scene with the never-gonna-get-it single "Goodies," the breathy "answer song" to Petey Pablo's "Freek-a-Leek." She was born in Austin, TX, but with her father in the Army, Ciara spent time living in Germany, ... Read more in Amazon's Ciara Store

BBC Review

Springing from the same state as fellow-Texan, Beyonce, Ciara's stock in trade boasts the same vocal dexterity, but owes more to the 'crunk' end of Southern rap. Hardly surprising seeing as she now resides in crunk's capital of Atlanta. Her debut album, featuring the smash, "Goodies", (co-written with Sean Garrett) made her an overnight star, but is her new album going to continue the trend? The title says it all: This is the point at which Ciara finally throws off the tag of 'pretender to the throne of Aaliyah'. The Evolution, the R'n'B star's second album, is most definitely a step in the right direction.

The reason for this progression is obvious once you press the play button. We've had to wait a while in the UK for this album that's already racked up a couple of huge top twenty hits ("I Proceed" and "Bang It Up") and been certified platinum in the States, but as soon opener "That's Right"'s Miami bass, Atlanta crunk, and big fat pop hooks fill the room you're not going to sitting still.

While the singer's claims that it's '...about so much more than just my personal growth - it's about the evolution of music, the evolution of dance, the evolution of fashion.' may be frankly pushing it (as are the between-tracks monologues), there's no doubt that she's shown a vast amount of creativity. She's also done the only thing that will make a mark in an over-saturated market: she's chosen some very fine producers.

Polow Da Don, The Neptunes, Bryan Michael Cox, Will.i.am, Dallas Austin, Rodney Jerkins and Mr. Collipark all have a hand in the mix, and with name talent like that on board it's guaranteed to fill floors. Of course none of it lingers too long in the memory, and she's still prone to Diva-style histrionics ("Can't Leave 'Em Alone", featuring 50 Cent) but The Evolution... is just that; a giant step on for the 22-year old. --Jerome Blakeney

5.0 out of 5 stars Evolutionary 14 Mar 2007
Format:Audio CD
I got this for xmas in 2006, imported from the USA. Well what can i say its one of those albums that most songs you can listen to over and over again. I'll never get bored with this, this is the only CD alongside Michele Williams "Do You Know" and Faith Evans "The First Lady" that i can listen to for years to come.

Th best songs would be:

Like A Boy

My Love

Get Up

So Hard

I Found Myself

The dvd is has the videos for promise and get up, hope the UK one does too.

Great Album

Ciara's does show a heap of improvement as promise and it did in fact meet my expectations. Her sophomore album shows growth from her Goodies days and lyrically she has matured and is quite creative in what she says. Her voice is on point but serves a different purpose.

Less crunk and more ballads has been driven throughout this entire album. You will fine that the ballad measurement of this CD is way better than on Goodies and the dance tracks is pretty solid but not as hot. The tracks that stand out to me are Get Up, Promise, My Love, I Proceed, So Hard, Can't Leave Em' Alone, and That's Right. Change is a good thing because Ciara doesn't stick to just one in-house producer instead she hauls in big name producers such as the aforementioned Jerkins, The Neptune's, will-i-am, and Sean Garrett makes this an enjoyable as well. I found the track "I'm Just Me" very mellow for a Neptune's production and won't have you believe that it was produce by them making it an average listen.

Ciara is one great entertainer and is very innovative with her style. Her diva personality is very mellow compare to the other artist out there which makes her a good role model for the younger females. R&B fans that are looking to get this album should do so being that it's something to groove to or mellow out in.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING ALBUM! 22 Aug 2007

Hot US RnB diva follows up 2004's 'Goodies' with this sophomore effort. Whilst not truly presenting any great evolutionin her style, the harsh mechanised electro beats and synthesizer melodies here show that she is still at home with a more cutting-edge sound than many of her contemporaries. Lyrically she continues to be at her best spitting vitriol in thebattle of the sexes. Includes the single 'Like A Boy'.

Best ever album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ciara Makes The Competition Sweat! 20 Oct 2012
By gone
Format:Audio CD
This is the Hong Kong Double Disc of "Ciara: The Evolution" and features 2 bonus tracks, and a DVD. The music has topics that range from love and romance to strength despite adversity as well as fast up-tempo dance tracks. The beats are high energy, the R&B brings hip-hop + rap, and the overall vibe is positive for sure!

The 2 Bonus Tracks are extraordinary! The first bonus track, "Promise (Go And Get Your Tickets Mix)" features R. Kelly. The duets of both singing back and forth definitely create a romance in high gear! The additional vocals by R. Kelly add a different spin! His thuggish yet sweet and sexy tones combined with Ciara's are sizzling hot!

The second bonus track titled, "Addicted" is sticky, infectious, ghetto friendly, and catchy in its hooks. The beats are fast, the music is diverse, and the energy is non-stop funk! It's about going crazy for someone so bad it takes control of your thoughts. There are nice rap portions bouncy in style with much R&B, dance beats. The 2 bonus tracks are off the charts, fabulous!!!

The DVD has the dance instruction as well as the video for 2 of her songs: "Get Up" and "Promise". There is a behind-the-scenes footage of Ciara as well as a glimpse of her personal style definitely pleasing!

From the smashing track, "Get Up" Featuring Chamillionaire to the hip-hop "Can't Leave 'Em Alone Featuring 50 Cent" to the dance swaggering funk track "Bang It Up", Ciara proves she can handle the competition and leave them sweating. Every single song in this album is excellent making it zero fillers and no boring sad tunes to feel gloomy, down, or in a low mood. This is about having fun, enjoying, and being much more in tuned with certain issues that range from loving yourself in songs like "Get In, Fit In", "C.R.U.S.H." making the magic of desiring someone quite fun, and the life-lesson, "I Found Myself" and "I'm Just Me".
