Britt Brandon is a mainly raw-foods vegetarian who consumes green smoothies daily, and attests to the dramatic improvement they can have on pregnancy, post-natal health, and athletics. As part of her personal training practice, Britt develops green smoothies for weight-loss, cleanses, pregnancy, athletes, vegans, children, and even pets. Lorena Novak Bull, RD has spent the last fifteen years working as a registered dietitian in public health, and has more than twenty-five years of experience with vegetarian, vegan, and raw vegan lifestyles.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who struggles with overload of fruit sugars (e.g. candida sufferers like me) when it comes to juices and smoothies. I would give this book 10 stars if I could! It is absolutely PACKED with delicious smoothie recipes, plenty of which are without fruit. It starts with 26 pages of brief yet informative "Green Smoothie Basics" with some facts about Vitamins and Minerals, and the qualities each fruit and veg contain. Then there are 260 pages of easy-to-read and prepare smoothies, with calories, fat, protein, sodium, fibre, and carbohydrate information for each recipe, and a line or two about the benefit each smoothie can give you. It includes the following smoothie sections: Breakfast, Everyday, Dessert, Savory, Vegan, Cleansing and Detox, Health and Disease Prevention, Weight Loss, Athletes, Pregnancy, Raw-food Diets, Anti-aging and Body Care, Digestive Health, Kid-Friendly, and even smoothies for Pets. There are even "chocolate" smoothies using raw cocoa powder.
I use my Vitamix to blend (but any good blender would be ok), and sometimes use ice instead of the recommended water in the recipes. Because there are so many wonderful recipes one could spend ages each day leafing through the book trying to decide which one to make, so I have made myself a list with the page numbers of the ones I particularly want to try with the ingredients (not quantities) next to them so I can easily scan down it and make my choice/s for the day. Enjoy! Incidentally, I bought the paperback version, not the Kindle edition which would make searching for recipes difficult.

I started making smoothies just over a week ago and can feel the difference already. I have more energy, I can bend, kneel and stretch without discomfort, not to mention losing a few pounds!!! Well worth getting.

I liked the concept of this book - although not ness all the elements of execution. Firstly this book is American which means almost everything is measured in cups - this means that you end up with quite a lot of green smoothie. This is frustrating to me because I like to juice to loose/control weight, so I feel I need to adjust and reduce by half every recipie so it is not so mega sized - even eating healthly can lead to weight gain if you eat too much of it! Saying that there is an excellent selection of green smoothie recipies and I've started to adapt them quite easily. There are both sweet and savoury options and the chapters are clearly laid out for different needs such as preganancy, vegan, detox, digestive etc. but to be honest I think any green smoothie is good for you overal. The ingredients are easily sourced in the UK and any produce that you think is not i.e. arugula, can be easilty found after a quick google, so Arugula = Rocket for example. I'd also recomend adding spice to smoothies with caution - I did not like a teaspoon of cloves plus a teaspoon of cinamaon in my smoothie!

Most of this book had over half of the pages left blank!!! with just one smoothie recipe
at the top of page a total waste of paper and a bit of a con as you think your getting
a super big thick book packed with choice.

And a big lack of choice unless you want lots of variation with lettuce.

Very informative book and so many delicious variations to suite different tastes. Also like that it has a vegetable only section. I highly recommend this book. It is an easy way of incorporating greens in your diet.
