LET ME SAY THIS FIRST .... I LOVE THIS BAND!
But this.... this is awful.
Major mastering faults: why, why,why? ends after less than 2 mins mid-performance,mid-bar .. jolting into spoken intro for next track. There also 2 or 3 garbled 1/2 second glitches on both disks.
And the vox .... oh dear .... weak as hell and well out of tune in places. Sounds like a bad covers band.
Don't buy this! Please! Theres a few passable bits on this 2CD set (Nine Feet Underground is good .... and always is ..its my fave track from the back catalog)but most of these performances are NOT Caravan at their best - far from it. (Although Richardson's Viola is sublime as always.)
I know its a 'straight from the desk' recording ... but it shouldn't be this bad.

Avoid
If you're a completist - you are gonna buy this anyway.
If not - buy just about any other Caravan recording out there - it will be better than this.
I hate to bitch about a band I genuinely love - but this recording is legacy damaging stuff - go buy ALL their albums up to the mid-70's - those are gold dust!

The good news, the mastering problems seem to be sorted as my copy plays fine. Further good news, the band are in really great form as they revisit old favourites and some newer material. It's really good to hear the newer material live, the band seems to really enjoying themselves on tracks like The Unauthorised Breakfast Item. Personally I would have liked more recent material as I have several versions of the old classics already (as I guess most fans will). Bad news, some of the vocals are a bit weak, didn't spoil my enjoyment particularly and the playing more than compensates. Not a lot of information in the packaging but a very entertaining double album overall.

Oh Dear!!!!!Please be aware all fans of this great band. How did this release get past Concert Live's quality control process? It's a good question that needs answering. This badly edited and mastered 2 disc set is a dissappointment too far. Tracks 1 & 2 on the cover seem to be combined as track 1 on the disc . At the end of track 3, track 4 (Golf Girl) begins but cuts (jumps) after just over a minute, then skips onto track 5 (midway through the verbal intro). Track 6 then turns out to be the aforementioned Golf Girl without the intro mentioned earlier that was cut off. The track listing is also incorrect on the cover. Add to that some gliches and questionable sound quality and you have the marketing equivalent of a bad joke. I have heard Bootlegs that are more professionally put together than this. I have informed "Concert Live" about the problem's. Their answer, return the CD for further investigation. As if they need the CD to check out the problem. My answer to Concert Live? Try playing a copy that you have in-house!!
I smell a refund with an apology coming for people who buy this!! Avoid at all costs!!
P.S. Good News,follow up information below. Apology accepted,and now it's being put right. I hope this helps all those who have bought a copy.
