I have many cook books (too many to fit on my book shelf in the kitchen) and this one is one of my essentials.
The book begins by showing and naming the different types of pasta, gives instruction on making it fresh and when it's better to use dried. The beginning of chapters give small descriptions on less well known (and mostly Italian) ingredients involved in some of the recipes. This includes the wide verity of meats and cheeses Italy has to offer. Despite this, cooking from this book doesn't require an ingredient hunt - most things, if unavailable, are substitutable and the majority of the recipes can be made with supermarket stock alone.
It's also not all pasta! with many Italian `starters' it spreads its wings even further.
Unlike so many cook books, you could stick a pin in this book blindfolded and guarantee to have chosen a fantastic recipe.
The recipes are all accompanied by large colour pictures that accurately represent the outcome, but are also peppered with mini side dish recipes that are useful, easy and tasty.
I favour this book over `Italian recipe' books, as most of those try and shy away from what we British people think Italian recipes should be, where as this book is happy to instruct on classics from any origin, and helps you to cook your favourite dish from your favourite Italian restaurant faithfully and easily.

This book has a lot of good bright photos which help when working out what the final dish should look like. Some of the ingredients I didn't find readily available. My daughter 14 has enjoyed making some of the receipes.

I bought this book as my pastas were always a little to dry (sauce). It gives you tips and many many recipes to prepare. All quite straight forward.. My husband loves it... Its like eating out every night! Excellent!
