Dionne, at the first quarter of her career, was blessed with the talents of writers/producers, Bacharach & David. The songs they composed were intelligent, almost Broadway-like in their stylings. It gave her a wealth of memorable songs to sing that dominate her stage repertoire today, some 40 years later. This compilation gives a fine representation of classics like, my personal favorite, "Walk on By", the sublime "Alfie" to the near Great White ways, "I'll Never Fall in Love Gain". Despite contributions from the master songwriter/producer, Thom Bell and the Supreme Motown scholars, Lamont Dozier and occasionally , the Holland Brothers, her 70s stint at Warner Bros were barren years. The brief resurgence under Clive Davis gave her a first #1 in the charitable quartet, "That's What Friends Are For" and her biggest international hit, "Heartbreaker" as her near 15 year ride with Arista concluded. A very good sampling of a splendid catalog of songs, that though not as stunning album-wise, is perfect for such a compilation.
