Product Description

Within a very few years in the 1950s, Buddy Holly almost single-handedly changed the face of modern music, song-writing and recording techniques and his influence can still be heard in virtually every form of pop music to this day. This brand new triple-disc set brings together all of his best-loved songs, as well as a bonus selection of tracks by his band, the Crickets, whose name would later be paid homage to by a certain Liverpool foursome going by the name the Beatles.

Glancing at the play-list contained within this box-set of the 3-CD's collector's will
know that much of the material we remember is on-board, it includes many if
not most of the numbers 'Buddy Holly' recorded with the 'Crickets' many if not
most of his solo efforts along with the bonus of having many of the numbers
the 'Crickets' recorded after 'Buddy's' death.
Amazingly despite the popularity of 'Buddy's' music, which at the time seemed
way ahead of much of the material around back then, he only achieved the
one number 'one' here in the U.K. that being the song released just after his
passing which was 'IT DOESN'T MATTER ANYMORE'
Although there is so much material of 'Buddy's' on-board that we do remember,
curiously the three songs found on tape after his passing and released during
'1963' are not included in this otherwise brilliant collection of his works, those
being 'Brown Eyed Handsome Man' which charted at number '3' 'Bo Diddley'
which reached number '4' and 'Wishing' a number '10' hit here in the U.K.
As I've said before, as with many all-time favourite artists of both today and
yester-year you never quite get all ther hits on-board a collection, you almost
always have to buy maybe 3-4 albums to do so.
That, not taking anything away from this 3-CD offering which does contain many
'A' and 'B' sides that 'Buddy' released.
Whilst on a long and tiring tour back in January/Febuary 1959 the bus the crew
and artists was having problems with it's heating, the weather outside bitter, 'Buddy'
came up with the idea of hiring a light-aircraft to carry at least a few of those on
board the bus to the next venue.

Very good compilation. However, songs are not in chronological order.

All Buddy Holly's best known & liked songs. But as often happens with CD's with all an artists recordings, there are those B sides which aren't my cup of tea. Each disc does start with his best known songs, before moving onto the lesser known ones. To be fair, I'm too young to remember Buddy Holly in his hey-day, so I'm not best suited to make such a judgement, as older fans might. But it's enjoyable, & there is the bonus of several tracks from his band mates, The Crickets, with some nice tunes in there.
