Product Description

Product Description

In his later career, Champion Jack was happy to promote his image as Court Jester of the blues, even once dressing as one. But appearances were deceptive; here was a man steeped in the blues tradition he d inhaled during his childhood in New Orleans. A prolific recorder, Jack made the most of his New Orleans origins becoming an inventive composer of perception and wit, qualities evident in the songs collected here. Recorded between 1953 and 1956, these tracks portray him in every mood except anger. Raving it up in Stumbling Block Blues , contemplative in The Blues Got Me Rocking , wickedly humorous in Tongue Tied Blues , talking himself into a hit with Walking The Blues and tackling his favourite bugbear, the mother-in-law, in When I Got Married . 1.0 out of 5 stars Corrupted MP3 File 28 Feb 2014
Format:MP3 Download
Dear Sir
This is a track I have owned for many years but it was only a old copy recorded from a tape cassette. I finally got round to replacing the mp3 with a digital copy from Amazon only to find a 'digital clicking' sound on the download....so not fit to listen to.
I would hope that you will be able to confirm this defect and refund the cost.
I await your responce.
Many thanks
C.J Meadows

5.0 out of 5 stars Shim Sham Nasty 28 Aug 2012
By EvenSteven - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I was lucky enough on a recent vacataion to scoff this baby up for $6 Canadian brand new. I recognized the title track "shake baby shake" & "shim sham shimmy" & was not disapointed by the rest of the tracks which range from slow blues to mid tempo & jump like the title. Also, as previously mentioned above the Champ is backed by a stellar band lead by guitarist Larry Dale, sax man Teddy "the Bear" McRae & other stalwarts in the Groove/Vic stable. If you like your blues on the jumpin & rockin side you will love this cd. It is blues like they dont make any more. I feel like I need a shower every time I spin "Shim/sham" the sound & words should come with a parental advisory.....take 1 wild guess what the Champ is singng about....this is 1 "knock out" slice of blues....get it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Vik and Groove Sides 15 Feb 2011
By crispy critter - Published on Amazon.com

Champion Jack does not get any better than this! Fantastic sides from 1956-1957 on the Groove and Vik label. Check out the lineup:Champion Jack: Piano & Vocals (of course), The fantastic Larry Dale-Guitar, Al Lucas: Bass, Gene Moore Willie Jones: Drums, Pete Brown and Teddy Macrae: Saxes, Mr Bear Vocals Prime R&B in very good sound. Zero Liner notes on this release, but it is worth tracking down. Slammin' slices of the real deal! R&B, Talking Blues, Gutter blues, Oh baby! Essential Sides.
