I had no doubt that Roja Dove's book would be worth having but in fact this book exceeded my expectations. It is beautiful to look at, the content is interesting and informative and it s very well edited. A good reference book for the fragrance hobbyist, or anyone interested in fashion history as reflected in fragrance, and fragrance packaging. This one is the 2008 edition. It is a great price on Amazon. Don't hesitate.

I bought this book as a gift for a lady of 89, who loves perfume, especially the ones she remembers from her youth. Many of them, especially those by Guerlain, are featured. The book is beautifully illustrated with photographs and old advertisments. She was delighted with it, and gets continued pleasure from dipping into it and discovering things she hadn't known before about her favourite fragrances. Altogether a most informative and beautiful book, excellent value for money from Amazon, who delivered it very promptly.

The Essence of Perfume by Roja Dove is a Msterpiece. The research for this book is evident with the information in each chapter is so detailed and thorough. The 270 page book covers The sense of smell, The birth of Modern Perfumery, Methods of extration, The raw materials, The perfumer and the rudiments of perfumery, The great classics, The houses that created the classics, The bottle makers, What Next?, Biography, Bibliography, Index and Acknowledgements. The photographs are beautiful and many I have not seen before as they are from private collections. The way that Roja Dove has written the book is so easy to read and is very difficult to put down. I would buy two copies so that I have one in a very safe place.
