Product Description

Drawn from His Holiness the Dalai Lama's bestselling THE ART OF HAPPINESS, with Dr Howard C. Cutler, this little book contains simple advice on how to achieve lasting happiness in our everyday lives. Going straight to the heart of the matter, each page offers a gem of spiritual wisdom to enable us to defeat depression, anxiety, anger, jealousy - and the many and varied emotions that form a barrier to our happiness. Melding the knowledge of 2500 years of Buddhist meditations with modern Western psychology, THE ESSENCE OF HAPPINESS offers great spiritual balance and joy, and a source of profound wisdom that can be called upon anywhere, anytime.

About the Author

The Dalai Lama is one of the world's great spiritual leaders. The recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and many other international awards, he receives constant and extensive media coverage.
Howard C. Cutler is a psychiatrist who has had an interest in Buddhism for over 25 years. He has strong ties with the Tibetan community and was chosen by the Dalai Lama to present and interpret his ideas in this book for a wider non-Buddhist audience.

Don't do what I did and confuse this book with 'The Art of Happiness: A Handbook for Living' by the Dalia Lama (the full version) - they have very similar titles and front covers! A nice little book though.

Good little book to keep me on track 17 Aug 2011
By L. Tomsic - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The words of the Dalai Lama are so brief, simple, educational and to the point. The only reason I didn't rate 5 stars is because of the insertion of Howard C Cutler, M.D.'s words. I have learned to skip the parts in italics (Dr. Cutler's part) and just read the sections by His Holiness. I mean - why would you need somebody else to write stuff? Messing with perfection. Give me a break.

He's always worth the price, plus some 4 July 2011
By Senorita Bandita - Published on Amazon.com

His words are soooo just right for the time. It's a good way, in this modern age, to return to the basics of life and think about one's doings. This book is a nice, traveling companion.

Is a nice book, but not as much of the Dalai Lama as I hoped.
