Book Description

This book describes the basic principles of Buddhism. Much has been written about Buddhism and how to practice it. Readers will have no difficulty finding hundreds of books on the topic. This book simply focuses on the essence of Buddhism, as expressed in the Four Noble Truths and the Eight-fold Path.

Buddhism is not a religion as such; it does not propose an external God. It does not seek to replace a person’s existing religious beliefs, only to supplement them. The Buddha, in all likelihood, would rather his followers describe themselves simply as Followers of The Way.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good little clue to Buddhism 29 Nov. 2011
By J D Tilston VINE VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This isn't a very long book, but it clearly and simply explains what Buddhism is all about and the main principles of it. I would say it is an excellent place to start to find out what this religion (if that's what it is because the book describes it as an addition to one's own religion, which, after reading it, I can agree with). It has made me want to find out more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool pocket guide. 8 Aug. 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's a very short, punchy summary of the main precepts and thought of Buddhism.

As such it does it's job very well being both clear and readily understood.

It's a great way of grasping in just a few minutes the key concepts and perhaps offering some alternatives to readers. Good job. CW

3.0 out of 5 stars Very basic outline of Buddhist belief 4 Nov. 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I think that if this were in paper form rather than electronic it would be classed as a pamphlet. It is very basic; just a sentence or two on each of the main Buddhist tenets, the four Noble Truths and the Eight-fold Path followed by a short section on meditation. If you know nothing at all about Buddhism and want a brief definition/summary this is well worth downloading. But if you already have some basic knowledge you'll want something more substantial.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice very short introduction 7 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It is good of the author to offer this as a free download.

It is nicely formatted and give a decent introduction to Buddhism including the Four Noble Truths and the eight-fold path.

It is very short so you could almost certainly get all of this online for free. However the Kindle is a good device for this sort of thing as you can use it as a quick and easy reference.

The section of meditation was useful.

By Bob
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Although short this little book provides a good introduction to the history and the basic principles of Buddhism. Should you wish to know more it would be worth getting a bigger book but for an introduction it is very useful as it covers:-
The essence of Buddhism
The Four Noble Truths
The eight-fold path
Meditation Practice

5.0 out of 5 stars A valuable insight into Buddhism and Meditation. 3 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Firstly, forget the negative reviews. The book is free and provides a valuable insight into Buddhism and Meditation. If this is what you need as a starting point, this book is extremely helpful in providing that information. If, like myself, you have a deeper interest in the concepts and traditions of the Buddhist ethos, you can move on from this, to other publications. Well written and a pleasure to read. Thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully shortened and easy to understand 15 Jan. 2015
By Rumeur
Format:Kindle Edition
An excellent shortened look into Buddhism Instead of reading long, laborious & somewhat tedious readings, the author reduced it to its simplest forms

Following the 4 noble truths, the eight-fold path, & gives a beginners type meditation at the end

He manages to cut out all the difficult parts by breaking it down into a very simplified method that most anyone can truly follow

Along with explanations of each part, he explains how the enlightened person is able to see these. Also explains that Buddhism doesn't try to take away from any religion, but to enhance whatever religion you choose to follow

I highly recommend this for anyone interested in learning Buddhism as its so easy to follow for beginners
