Engaging and well researched book which is refreshing in steering a path between the sceptical scholar and tarotist. Offers interesting lines for further research and a plausible thesis.

Tarot scholarship at its best 23 July 2013
By Angelo Nasios - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
The Esoteric Tarot by Ronald Decker represents the finest in tarot scholarship. This book is exactly what I feel like is needed right now in tarot. This book is not for the faint of heart as its material is advance. Having some background knowledge of Greek philosophy/Hermeticism/Qabala/esoterisim in general will help you keep up with the author. I am an esoteric junkie, I love learning about anything regarding ancient philosophy/history/cultural.religion and if you are like me you will enjoy the wealth of knowledge this book provides on those subjects. This book is for the serious student and you need to devote time to read and understand the material. This is not a book for the newbie.

After reading this book you will walk away a wiser person with a whole new perspective on tarot than before. If you are serious and want to learn an advance subject matter pick up this book.

Do you know the tarot truth? 26 Aug. 2013
By Anna from InannaWorks - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Ronald Decker makes it clear that most of us don’t — or didn’t until now. Applying his expert academic and archivist skills to the history and symbology of tarot, he has created the most thorough, and yet readable, accounting of tarot cards I have ever read. Dispelling popular myths attributing the tarot to early Egypt, Hermeticists, and Cabalism, he carefully explains how influences from all those sources found their way into tarot as we know it today. He also explains how the mysterious deck first began to be used as an oracle.

Decker welcomes dissenting opinions, but it would require great effort to seriously dispute his conclusions. His research is meticulous. His bibliography is awe-inspiring. He relies predominantly on the Tarot of Marseilles to illustrate his treatise, citing it as the most reliable representation of his theories. Anyone with a serious interest in the tarot and its symbology will welcome this as an addition to their library.

optima. 1 Nov. 2013
By Johannes - Published on Amazon.com

After many years of studying and teaching Kabbalah and tarot (since 1986), this is the first text that I have come across that gives a clear survey of the most probable "history" of the tarot cards, along with their developmental connections to numerology, astrology and hebrew hermeneutics. It is an excellent resource, both theoretically and pragmatically.

Esoteric Tarot 26 Aug. 2013

This book is not for tarot beginners like me. I am interested in learning more of the history so I will begin studying it soon. But it isn't a book that draws me in. More like a textbook.
