5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a quick read 19 Aug 2009

As a father of three children myself, I found myself chuckling after every page of this short story. The mischievous thoughts and behaviors of the young protagonist seemed to mirror some of the actions of my own kids over the years. I love the way Ms Hoffman sends everything around full circle. She instills the moral that even a life full of "no consequences" can bring forth the worst consequence of all. I recommend this story to all the parents who have ever fought with your kids to behave.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 Stars 25 Oct 2009

Overview: 4 1/2 Stars

The story does feature a nine-year old boy; however, I wouldn't say that it is a kid's story. It has a couple of mature jokes that young children just wouldn't get, such as one involving lingerie.

The writing style seemed to waffle between trying to be for children, teens, and adults. The opening is definitely for young children. After the first few sentences, the tone seems to fluctuate several times.

The ending was quite a bit darker than I expected from the tone throughout the story. To be honest, though, I really enjoyed the ending. While reading, I kept thinking that there was going to be some kind of sweet and gooey scene at the end that fixes everything. Instead, the novel happily veered off into a horrific conclusion.

Editing/Formatting: 4 1/2 Stars

The formatting was of professional quality. There were a few editing errors.

Rating: PG-13 for a scary ending that might upset younger chiildren

I really enjoyed this. Especially the end but it was a short read but very good. I think anyone who likes twist and books that keep you wondering would enjoy this.
