If you've read the articles about people making real millions in Second Life and wondered how they did it, this book will tell you - though not in any more detail than the magazine articles.
WHat this book does tell you is how to make *some* money in SL. SO why would you want to go to the hassle of setting up something in SL that makes you 10s of dollars rather than thousands? Because all of the same principles of setting up business in real life apply in SL - so its a great place to cut your teeth at a cost of a few hundred dollars before committing the time and money to setting up a real life business.
So how well does this book cover it? On the whole well. It looks at successful business models - with stories from existing SL entrepreneurs - how to choose a niche, market your business, and turn your lindens into real dollars.
It looks at all the most popular industries in SL, how to make a success of them and how much money you can expect to make at them.
While it considers how to terraform land, create buildings, and of course create products, you'll probably want to look at some of the more specialised books out there about scripting and textures if you want to create anything yourself.
In summary, this is a book about basic business principles and how to apply them in SL. If you're already in business in real life then I suggest you look at 'Making Real Money in Second Life' - but if you are creative and you want to experiment with trading in SL then this is a good book to go for.

Entrepreneur's Guide to Second Life: Making Money in the Metaverse
I figured this would be a useful book because when I was interviewed for it the questions were in-depth, thoughtful, and non-fluffy. And it turns out that the book is even better than I expected. This is a GREAT book for anyone who wants to start an in-world Second Life business, or for someone who wants to improve their existing business. I would have turned a profit quicker if I'd had it when I was a newbie!
I figured this would be a useful book because when I was interviewed for it the questions were in-depth, thoughtful, and non-fluffy. And it turns out that the book is even better than I expected. The Entrepreneur's Guide to Second Life: Making Money in the Metaverse
This book covers the entire range of financial systems and possibilities in Second Life. The information offered here is accurate but, I found it to be rather generalized. As is always the case the data can be gotten from other sources but, the organization that this author imposes on it makes it accessible to the neophyte. My only complaint was the huge mass of subjects prevents any detailed discussion of MY specific interests. Great for that initial think-tanking process and full of really great advice.

Practical and Fun Look at The Possibilities

This book is a great way to learn about the many financial opportunities that await you in Second Life. The layout is clean and colorful, the examples shown are interesting and inspiring, and it is a good examination of Second Life overall. The lessons ignite the imagination...where would I like to concentrate my efforts as an entrepreneur? What does it really take to make a business successful? How have others done it, and what can I learn from their experiences? Terdiman did his homework on this project and the guide provides a realistic look at what it would take to create your dream career.
