Book Description

1 April 2012
In Bike Snob, blogger BikeSnobNYC offered an overview of cycling and the various 'bike cultures.' This next book will focus on an experience that cyclists the world over are familiar with: commuting. With his trademark snark, humor and begrudging enthusiasm, BikeSnobNYC will take readers through the trials and triumphs (but mostly trials) of getting there by bike. Along the way, he offers up everything from the history of our commutes to the deadly sins of commuting to tactics for dealing with cars, pedestrians, and your fellow two-wheelers.

Review

"Weiss is a Brooklyn-based cyclist and writer. His book is 240 pages of optimism hidden in snark, of hope cloaked in sarcasm, and it's full of sometimes scathing, always accurate cycling observations that occasionally border on genius....But for all its sardonic wit - and there is a lot of it - "The Enlightened Cyclist'' at its core is an honest look at a growing culture of bicycle commuters vying for a slice of the road in a car-dominated culture that still considers the bicycle an "alternative'' means of transportation. Mixed into the snark stew is a plea for commuters of all stripes - pedestrian, cyclist and driver - simply to get along." - The Unnamed Cyclist

A fascinating (if personal) insight into the joys and perils of cycling in NYC. Probably one of the most balanced cycling books I've read. It should be read by the most ant-cyclist petrol-heads and absolutist cycle campaigners - and just about everyone in between.

Highly recommended

2.0 out of 5 stars The other half finds this a bit self indulgent... 24 July 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I bought this for my boyfriend after he really enjoyed the first book. He said it it scraping the barrel for subject matter and is overly self indulgent, which is a tad disappointing! Sorry!
