Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
From the first moment I picked up this book I just couldnt put it down, it has everything in it, the characters are very believeable, I actually prefered this book than My Fair Captain, J.L Langley is a great writer with such an imagination, I have now read all of the books written by him and, have to say that they are great, definately worth a read.

This is a well written story with well.rounded characters. There is a good story that is credible within the setting the author has created.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love these sci/regency romances. 22 Sep 2012

This is in fact a delayed review that I never got round to writing when I first read it, but as the 3rd one of the series is finally coming out in a few days I am just rereading both 1 and 2 to refresh my memories.

I really love these stories, as I stated in my review of ' My fair captain ' they have a bit of a special place in my heart for being part of my introduction to m/m romance. Don't even try to take them seriously because they are obviously not ' classics ' but they are exactly what anybody who loves the genre really looks for when wanting a light easy read and that's a fun, sexy plot, full of hot guys and palpable ST. Don't get me wrong J L Langley is no slouch in the writing department either, she has an easy style and is a really good m/m romance author - her love scenes always sizzle and the chemistry is spot on between her men. I have never been disappointed with any of her books. Her 'With/Without' werewolf series is fantastic too.

The Englor Affair is number 2 in J L Langley's space Regency series. It's definitely meant to be read as part of that series. A lot of the plot won't make sense if you haven't read Book 1, My Fair Captain, so check that out first. One drawback is that with the first book and with this one the endings feel a bit too unresolved, even for me, who doesn't mind quite an open ending. The romance is resolved, of course, but the rest of the plot doesn't seem to be.

I don't think this is purely down to it being a series though. I just find the endings a little too easy. After setting up the problems nicely for the rest of the book they are too easily solved. Si fears Englor society won't accept his relationship with Payton, but once it's out in the open no big problems appear. He's worried the House of Lords will agree to let the Englor Marines be absorbed into the IN, but talks them out of it - and we don't even get to listen to him do it.

I like sci-fi and I like Regency romance, so putting them together certainly appeals to me. But this second book does feel slightly less successful in exploring the results of what happens when the two are put together. In the first book Regelence society had some very odd aspects, some of which freaked me out a bit, but made me think! So it had more of a twist. This one doesn't explore the potential strangeness as much, which is a shame.

It does repeat the "I compromised you, so I must marry you!" trope from My Fair Captain, which is a bit contrived. I hope all the Townsend brothers don't end up having to get married that way as the series goes on!
