"This is a very authoritative book. Anyone - particularly CEOs, HR professionals, brand marketing specialists, communications experts - serious about living the assertion that people are the definitive source of business success will find this book an invaluable source. 5.0 out of 5 stars Game changer 5 Aug 2011
By Bill
Format:Paperback
I received an early copy of this from the publisher and read it without putting it down. I've been involved in the management and development of people for over 30 years, across the world, and wish I'd had this in my toolkit long before now. There has been so much verbiage spouted about employee engagement recently that the real focus has been lost. Ultimately business success depends on people being "aligned and committed" and this book clearly puts engagement into the correct context. It's also very well written, unpretentious and easily assimilated. For anyone in the business of managing people, and that's all of us, this is a must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective Employee Enagement 5 Aug 2011
By Penny
Format:Paperback
I saw an advance copy and know that Alan has been a world-class leader in the employee engagement field for many years. He is usually credited with inventing the well-know term: employee branding.
Knowing a lot about a subject can make for a dull book, but not here. Reading it, Alan's voice comes straight through, as if he is speaking directly to you. That is the mark of a consummate expert who is passionate about making a difference.
Alan admits his focus is on nurturing employee engagement, and encouraging a wholesale review of what you doing the name of engagement, but his end game is achieving better and sustainable organisational performance - i.e. real results. In this current economic climate, most organisations need results.
That is why it should be required reading for CEOs as well as the HR and communications professionals who implement the employee engagement programmes.
As Alan says, "For longer than I care to remember, annual reports have stated that employees are the organisation's greatest asset, but more often than not, the behaviours exhibited by these
organisations do not reflect that sentiment."
He reckons there are plenty of initiatives in the employee engagement space, but they are tinkering around the issue. They won't work until organisations get the basics right. The vast majority don't. So if you need a straight-talking guide to what will work to transform employee engagement in terms of real results, read this book.
Alan has some great tools for measuring the results and I know his consultancy walks the talk.
He is a good speaker on the subject too.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last, Employee Engagement explained clearly. 12 Sep 2011
By Alison
Format:Paperback
Just added this to my management book list. There is so much clutter and noise about employee engagement currently. I found this book a breathe of fresh air in breaking down a clear definition of engagement;a set of key areas to consider and a thought provoking view on who ,what and how things could be improved. As many others seek to over-simplify this subject, the author has highlighted the strategic intent of employee engagement and how it drives value in a business without being scared of the complexities, yet manages to keep it easy to follow. The Enagement Manifesto has opened my eyes to what could really be done with people in a business to optimise value.
