I am always wary of watching something that has subtitles as you often miss things. On this occasion I didn't have to worry, in fact I was able to ignore them as despite not understanding the language I was still able to follow the story.

I don't understand people's poor opinion of the film, I didn't find it a waste of time. I found for my tastes there was just about the right amount of tension/suspense although (SPOILER ALERT) I would have made people disapear in a different order.

The storyline was OK, the acting was OK and the senses weren't overloaded with too many special effects which are often put in to hide the failings of the story and the acting.

It made a change from the homogenious stuff that Hollywood pumps out

The End is a Spanish thriller/ghost story type film. It tells the story of a group of friends who meet up for the first time in years at an old cottage in the back of beyond .... All seems ok until there is a meteorite shower.... Then things begin to change.... Where is everyone? And why are people disappearing.... I found this to be an excellent watch..... Very Spanish in its creepiness .... So for a film that I'd never heard of I would definitely recommend.... It is subtitled but easy to follow.....

In the last few years I've watched more and more subtitled films. Always a fan though. This was thoroughly enjoyable. Interesting characters brought together (yes, this has happened more than a few times in the film/story world) and it appears the end of the world as we know is along for the weekend as well. Filmed well, no dodgey dialogue, decent acting and well paced. No cgi, no special effects that are noteworthy and that ain't a bad thing. It took no more than a pack of hungry german shepherds to put the fright in me! Super looking country-side and thought provoking as well. If I had a wish for film watchers I would wish that more people would give foreign films a chance, some gems out there; this is a small gem but shining nevertheless.

I liked this film, a lot.
It is well written and the characters are expanded nicely with each scene
It is a nice change to have protagonists that aren't overly excitable, idiotic, young things.

It is more of meditation, but don't let that put you off - this is a well executed character based film.
Not for you if just want a blockbuster with ship load of CGI.

It's hard to know how to be fair to this movie...I want to be able to say that it's immediately engaging, that the story starts from the first frame, that the characters are interesting and 'real', the camera work skilful, the actors talented, the scenery stunning, the dialogue natural (and without a wasted line), the palette beautiful etc - and all these things are completely true...but...
It starts out SO promising - and it is certainly an engrossing and beautiful film to watch - but it just doesn't really go anywhere. It's almost like the writer lost interest about half way through and just cobbled it together in the end. Yes, ironically its 'The End' that lets the film down - it all just felt like a big waste of time really and so there isn't a lot there to actually review.
So why the three stars? The sheer skill of setting the scene, hooking the viewer, and stunning the eyes earns it three stars for me - it really is that promising a first half.

Excellent film. Ending didn't clarify much but I don't mind that really. Good acting, delightfully spooky but not at all gory or typical "horror" film. Typically weird European film - and I mean that very much as a compliment. If you're looking for Hollywood style action thriller, look elsewhere.

Naturalistic acting, lovely cinematography, nicely understated style, good music, well directed. I didn't know what to expect when I chose this on a whim, and was pleased to find myself engrossed.

Subtitles - some people are prejudiced against subtitles but you soon get used to them. It opens up a new world of film: great films you'd never see otherwise, and better in the original than any second-hand Hollywood remake. Also, you never wonder what is being said during action or mumbling - it's all there!

Ending - SPOILERS! Some people seemed confused by it, and it is open to interpretation, but here's my take on it. We see a big explosion at the start, maybe an ancient supernova in Sirius. It brings to mind the big bang theory - part of which is questions about what happened before. Many believe in a cycle of expansion and contraction, all matter eventually pulled back to collide and bounce back in a new big bang. So endings are also beginnings (one message of the film). At the end it is proposed that god has died; that the world-despoiling humans have no real purpose but as a beloved experiment of a god. With god's death we fade away, at the point when we realise we are alone and despair (pay attention to each disappearance). Note that non-humans in the film don't usually seem to be alone - flocks of birds, packs of dogs, goats, two vultures, lambs. However, the supernova is representative of the death of a god, but there are other stars, maybe a new god takes over, starts again. One man, one woman called Eve, in an unpopulated Eden. The EMP at the start serves one purpose as a red herring (has there been a nuclear bomb attack?
