useful 2 Sep 2009
Format:Paperback
This book does not provide lots of detail but gives a little information on nearly everything. The book is separated into 28 orders then some information on most of the families within them. There are articles which go into particular detail e.g. diversity of nests. The lack of detail is slightly off putting but is useful as a first stop to get a better idea of what your looking for. Not really suitable for in depth studies but still very useful.

Format:Hardcover
I love ALL the books that make up the "Facts On File" series, and this book is no exception. It's filled with lush, detailed, extraordinary illustrations, photographs, and plenty of facts about bird anatomy, physiology, and evolution.

It's not as detailed as a professional ornithologist's reference work. Also, it's not as handy to take outside as a Roger Tory Peterson field guide. Still, it's the BEST single reference book a bird watcher will EVER need!
