The opera itself deserves the full 5 stars. It uses baroque music to tell the story of Prospero's island long before Ferdinand comes ashore. We see Ariel making mistakes and imploring Neptune to help him correct them. Beautiful music, fantastic decors, and all very amusing. Simply brilliant!
So why only 3 stars? This is because there is a problem with the medium. Unfortunately the first DVD (there are 2) has a defect in its menu, so that it remains stuck at the beginning, without reacting to the commands from the remote control. At first I thought the batteries of the remote had a problem, but my other DVDs, including the second one of this package, all react properly. This only happens on the dvd player (I have a Panasonic). On the computer, the menu reacts correctly to mouse actions. So I resolved to watch the first part on the computer.
The seller (Marvelio) was so friendly as to send a second copy at their own cost, hoping that only the copy was defective. We thank them for this, but unfortrunately this turns out to be a series defect. So I suggest it is safe to inquire whether there is a new release before ordering.
