The Enchanted Collection: Ella Enchanted/The Two Princesses of Bamarre/FairestAll these books are humourous, romantic and just make you love them the moment you open the pages. They are essentially fairytales except they are not written for small children.
Ella Enchanted is about a girl cursed with a fairy's 'gift' obviously based on the idea of Sleeping Beauty and this book has been compared many times to Cinderella. Poor Ella has to do everything she is told to do... with hilarious consquences. It has an entirely different plot to the film and I prefer the book on the whole. Of course the attentions of a handsome prince are included. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a special place in their heart to that warm fluffy feeling.
The two princesses of Bamarre is an amazing book. There are obviously two princesses. One is adventurous and one is very shy, but when the headstrong princess falls ill, her sister must make a perilous journey to find the cure. Romance plays a part as well as betrayal. It is the story of a young woman on an adventure (which admittedly includes dragons- well, just the one) who discovers herself. I can't say enough good things about this book. Here's a quote: "Step follows step, Hope follows courage, Set your face towards danger, Set your heart on victory. Victory for Bamarre!"
Fairest is about a girl who is left on the doorstep on an inn and the owners bring her up as their own. In a land where singing is prized as the best talent someone can have, you would think that she would be praised and loved but the girl is also very ugly. When she goes to the King's castle to witness his new marriage, she gathers far too much attention, with distastrous results. Another handsome prince plays his part and a not-necessarily evil queen commits the biggest betrayal for her country and the poor ugly orphan girl becomes wrapped up in events that rapidly speed on a fantasy rollercoaster with heart-stopping moments as well as parts which make you sigh. I would recommend this book to... anyone really.
