5.0 out of 5 stars What an emporer 25 Mar. 2014

Conn on form as always. Mixing fiction with history superbly. Readers should not try to view this with exacting historical accuracy. Conn has mixed fiction with historical fact to make an enthralling story. It is very interesting to read Conns notes on what he has changed or added for dramatic effect. A definite read if you love military/historical fiction

5.0 out of 5 stars Educational and Entertaining 31 May 2014
I consider i had a pretty decent education and knew the basics about Roman history. This series of books taught so much more than i knew and in a very entertaining way. I was recommended this series by a friend and would in turn do the same to anyone interested in reading history pretty accurately depicted in story form.

3.0 out of 5 stars From Marius to Augustus 3 April 2014

A curious account of the end of the Roman republic and the coming of the Roman empire - curious because it's built on some facts and real people, but gives them all a modern sensibility that makes for a good yarn, but dubious history.

Read all of the books in this series and find all of them fantastic stories, how far to the truth they keep I'm not too sure, but great stories never mind, 100% recommend, once you pick the book up you'll never put it down.

As usual Conn Iggulden has produced a stonking good read. Lots of action and a master at battle description. A real page turner that will keep you enthralled from beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good read! 7 April 2015

I purchased the whole set for my kindle and am now on the second book. I'm really enjoying it and learning a lot about Roman history at the same time. The story flows easily from book to book and I can't put it down! I just have to keep reading to find out how the characters survive each narrow escape! It really brings home the goriness of the Roman world. A really good read and educational to boot!

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but historically poor. 9 Feb. 2015

Decent page-turners, but the history stinks. The author takes some massive liberties with historical fact that didn't seem crucial. It's if the fall of the Roman Republic wasn't exciting enough for him. I know they're fiction books, but still. There's also a weird mystic streak to them which I didn't much care for.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good bar issues with the last book. 16 Aug. 2014

A great at series of books and they would have got five stars except I found the final book frustrating due to the lack of continuity with the first books. Key characters no longer even mentioned, let alone included, made it difficult to read at times.
