Product Description

From the Back Cover

A haunting and unforgettable story – at whose heart lies a terrible mystery.

Deep in the sounds, scents and shifting rhythms of the Amazon forest, a family have lost their seven-year-old child, stolen by the mysterious ‘Invisible People’, the tribe which has never been seen.

Through ten years their agonized search for him takes them beyond the world’s last great natural frontier into the cruel beauty of the Brazillian jungle.

When at last father and son do meet – in a dramatic and terrifying encounter – it is in the emerald forest, a place where the mythical and magical powers of primal existence must clash with the cold-hearted greed of modern man.

Robert Holdstock’s brilliant novelization of a John Boorman film.

4.0 out of 5 stars The great green hope.. 9 April 2013

A great eco-fantasy story and film in it's own right, the novel also ties in well with the body of Robert Holdstock's fiction which seems to be being given a full e-book run at the moment (hopefully). This book would be a nice accessible gateway to his worlds. The Amazon is a great source of 'myth genesis'. Recommended. Get lost in the little big forest..

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best stories ever 20 Aug 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
It's beyond me why this is out of print, I had a hard time tracking down a good second-hand copy. I first came across this book in 1986 in a hotel library when I was only 12 years old and it captivated me instantly. The film is equally compelling. The story of Tommy Markham who goes missing at the edges of Amazon jungle in Brazil, taken by the "Invisible People", a tribe of uncontacted Amazon indians. Also the story of his Father, Bill Markham, who ten years on is still looking for his son and convinced he will find him one day. A wonderful book, totally captivating. It poses interesting questions - from the destruction of the rain forest, preservation of ancient cultures to our own cultural identity and how easily it can be stripped away.
