Product Description

Before the Great Wars and the Old Race of Man, there was a world populated by different beings: elves, demons, faeries, and the like. The Elves and the Demons constantly fought each other, until the Elves finally imprisoned them with the enchanted tree called the Ellcrys. Thousands of years later the Ellcrys still survives and still keeps the Demons imprisoned within the Spell of Forbidding, but not for much longer, the Ellcrys is dying. Amberle Elessidil and Wil Ohmsford must set out to find the Bloodfire and put the sacred Ellcrys seed within it. But dark on their trail comes the Reaper, most fearsome of all Demons, aiming to crush their mission at any cost. Only the Elfstones of Shannara can protect them.

I've been into fantasy books for about a year now and in my spare time I have read a wide range of excellent novels.
None of them compare to this.
The Shannara series is a ground-breaking piece of modern fantasy and "The Elfstones of Shannara" is arguably the finest book.
The story is set about 30 years after the events of the first book and is focused on a magical tree, known as The Elcrys. The tree that belongs to the Elves is dying and the force that holds demons in their evil prison is weakening...
As well as proving that he can write gripping fantasy, Terry Brooks also reveals that he is an excellent horror writer. Some of the scenes from this book, in which the heroes are stalked by dark creatures, are terrifyingly intense. Terry Brooks effortlessly creates a real sense of suffocating horror and suspense.
There is also a twist near the end of the story, but instead of springing up suddenly, little hints warn you subconciously and knaw at your brain. It makes you want to read further.

Although the influence of Tolkien is very prevalent in Sword, Elfstones is a unique creation, and marked Brooks as the best living fantasy writer. This book is such a marvel of imaginative creatures, concepts, suspense, and memorable characters that it is certainly one of my favorite books of all time. I am currently reading it for about the fourth time; and knowing Amberle's destiny makes reading about her so poignant. She is such a heroic, tragic character. Wil Ohmsford is a man, brave and resourceful. The Dagda Mor and Reaper are unforgettable villains. Eretria perhaps the most sensual character in all the books. The Ellcrys is a spectacular concept, and this book just goes on and on with one amazing concept/character/scene after another.

Allanon, the seemingly immortal Druid who guards the Four Lands throughout the books, even after his demise, is typically enigmatic and unforgettable.

This one is the most emotionally moving of all the books, in my view. I have always regarded Wishsong and Elfstones as my favorites. Wishsong will have to go some to beat this one this time around. This is simply one of the best; if not the best, fantasy novels ever written.

Terry Brooks is a highly commended fantasy writer. Starting with the Sword of Shannara through to the First King of Shannara. His style allows readers to embark on an emotional journey from happiness to fear to frustration and more. The Druids holds the key and add pieces of the puzzle through the adventure with their ambiguity in all books. Some of these books provide greater thrilling experiences than others and The Elfstones of Shannara is one of them.
It would be cruel to reveal the plot to potential readers though I would recommend those who are debating this read, should start reading the Sword of Shannara in order to become intimate with the characters especially Allanon, the Druid, who I love despite his mysteriousness and ambiguous past. You will find at least find two characters from the series that touches your heart the most, and each reader have chosen differently who they are. So, what are yours??
