5.0 out of 5 stars Your kid needs to meet this book 22 Sep 2009

Lane Smith must be a hoot to hang out with. His books are always funny and sweet...and a little twisted. Kids love them. Kids recognize the original spirit behind the words and illustrations. Smith reminds me of another favorite author of mine, Vivian Walsh, and her book "Olive the Other Reindeer."

3.0 out of 5 stars delightful 11 Sep 2009
By Kirsten G. Cutler - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This amusing story is a great way to explain the meaning of a common expression. One donkey asks another, "Can we talk about the big elephant in the room?" His friend immediately launches into a defensive mode, naming all the possible things he might have done wrong. The delightful conclusion will have kids rolling on the floor with hearty giggles. The comical illustrations are perfect reflections of the text.
5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Humor for Upper Elementary and Up 13 Aug 2013

This book gets me just about rolling with laughter, and despite a bit of potty humor, I've even worked with it in a fourth grade classroom with great success. It's an awesome fun way to introduce idioms, and it can be a great srpingboard to have kids tell a story about a misunderstood idiom. Prepare for some silliness, but loads of learning and enjoyment.

This one may only be for the young and young at heart, but it's become a favorite of mine! I really enjoy all of Lane Smith's wonderfully, childishly, funny books.

We love this book! Lane Smith does a great job of making kids and adults laugh in this cleverly adorable story. My 7-year-old daughter literally laughed out loud at the library and made this other older woman laugh just from her laughing! Strongly recommend this book!!
