5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful 13 Nov 2002
Format:Paperback
A very useful and practical guide to the various religious practices and times that we can describe as Shamanism. The book works as a very practical and friendly model of shamanism, giving multiple examples across multiple religions and regions of how Shamanistic experiences dovetail across religions.

The text is descriptive and not judgemental, and serves therefore as a level-headed and useful introduction to Shamanism is all it's guises.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good "what is" book 20 Jan 2001
By Mikkyo - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book, like the others of "The Element" seris, are intended to answer the question of "what is". It is not intended, IMHO, to lead one to total shamanic practices. It give the reader a basic understanding of shamanism and its core beliefs. A great book for reference or for those just starting to look at Shamanism.

3.0 out of 5 stars disappointing 10 May 2000
By W. Lambdin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Mr. Drury lists some of the better known shamans. I agree with him completely in regards to Carlos Castaneda.

Mr. Drury lists some Shamanic principles.

Mr Drury lsts some of the various plants used by Shamans.

This book does not provide enough information to assist you in becoming a shamanic practitioner. Read my other reviews to se the various Shamanic books I recommend.
