The 2 CDs in Electric Joe Satriani make a great introduction so Joe's music to anyone. The selection of tracks, which was made in part by fans on his official internet site is superb. It gives you the more rocking tracks as well as the ballad type pieces.

For anyone who is unaccustomed to his music, his excellent taste in straight-ahead rock creates excellent musical basis for him to play solo guitar melodies over the top of. At times, his playing can become highly virtuosic- this guy taught Steve Vai himself, as well as many other famous guitarists. However, he knows when to shut up, and has a brilliant ability to give each song exactly what it needs.

For experienced fans, this CD contains two previously unreleased songs, The Eight Steps and Slick. The former was actually a bonus track on the Japan release of Strange Beautiful Music but Slick's not been seen at all before. Every recording has been remastered, and it all sounds bigger and better than before. And to top it all off, Joe writes about each and every song in the liner notes, explaining things related to the tracks.

A great introduction to the new Satriani fan, and a must for experienced fans too.

If you are fan of rock. If you are a fan blues. If you are a fan of just good music then Satch is your man!. Perhaps you have heard of him but not sure where to start, this collection of 30 or so songs is a perfect introduction to his early to mid work. Included are all the bestsongs from his most famous albums (surfing, flying in a blue dream, the extremist etc). However you will also find some lost gems in the mix such as the funky yet brilliant "why" or "clouds race across the sky". I myself bought this album to see what he was all about and I have never regretted it.If you are into your shred guitar work, you will find that Mr Satriani really does stand out from the rest. He produces music which is not based around the basic premise of "look how fast I can play, I'm a knob!". His music is expressive and emotional, his technique probably unsurpaseed, his tone incredible but most of all his compositions are meaningfull and moving, something the likes of many modern guitarists seem to have overlooked over the years. Mind you if you want to have a good head bash there is still plenty of stuff for you get your hair flying!
In conclusion, highly reccommended worth every penny.
P.S. just in case im starting to sound like his PR man, I'm not! but I really do believe this guy is amazing!

After many years of hear about Joe, listening to stories of my friends Phil and Gill going to his concerts, when ever he is playing the UK, and the tales of when they got a back stage pass. I'm now listening to this Double CD.

I must admit at first it just became just back ground noise and everything sounded the same but slowly I found myself singing - yes actually joining in to one of the few vocal tracks 'I believe'.

I'm getting to recognise tracks and my feet are tapping away, even the odd guitar rift on my air guitar.

I really like the melodic tracks like `Always with you always with me' and `Down, down, down' where you can clearly hear his guitar playing.

There is however a good mix of tracks, apparently selected by his fans, so you get the relaxing sounds as well as the full blown powerful music and when you consider the price of the two CDs it is a bargain.

Why not sample some of the music by listening to a few the tracks on YouTube and see the man at work you won't be disappointed? He is a master craftsman.

Oh and how did my friends convert me, well then sent the CD as a Birthday gift.
