Book Description

7 April 2011
Just because you don't have any soil doesn't mean you can't eat delicious fruit and vegetables every day of the year. From an easy edible balcony that can be set up over a weekend, to using recycled and salvage materials, growing exotic fruit and creating a futuristic salad and herb wall, 'The Edible Balcony' mixes inspirational ideas with practical advice on how to achieve beautiful, flourishing outdoor areas however many floors up you maybe and however small your space. Packed with detailed planting and growing advice on all the crops featured, including the best varieties for sunny, shady, windy and dry balconies, plus how to make a self-watering container, create a salad cascade using guttering and grow beans and tomatoes on a hatstand, it is the essential guide for both beginner and experienced gardeners alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book 12 April 2011
Format:Paperback
This book is packed full of great tips, gorgeous photos and interesting stories. It's a fun and informative read and has given me some much needed confidence to pursue my home grown dream. I live in a big city with only a roof deck to garden in. In the past I have struggled with ideas and some failed crops but this book has all the answers I need. It has detailed information on how to deal with the climate and space you grow in alongside some interesting profiles of amazing balconies packed with food. I now feel more confident and aim to turn my 10ft by 10ft Toronto balcony into a living allotment. I'm looking forward to picking vegetables with my four yr old son this summer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Inspiring 6 April 2011
Format:Paperback
I've been wondering what to plant on my roof terrace so was delighted when I saw an extract of this book in the Mail on Sunday and ordered the book straight away. It arrived this morning and I'm now completely inspired - not only is this stunning book packed with information about what to grow, it's also full of beautiful photos showing just how creative you can be in even the smallest of spaces. I love the idea of recyling old colanders to make planters and using drawers to make raised beds - I've already started planning which edibles to grow & am hunting for quirky pots. The perfect book for those of us who don't have allotments or gardens but have got the grow-your-own bug.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely inspiring read 14 April 2011
By clon
Format:Paperback
Saw this book and thought it looked nice. I love veggie growing but wanted some inspiring ideas about how to make the most of my urban patio garden over and above the tomatoes in growbags. This book does not disappoint. I am filled with enthusiasm about doing some of the things this book suggests, the runner bean tunnel is going to be a definite feature in my garden now. What I also like is the real life photos that are shown so you know it is all possible. I had never heard of Japanese Wineberry, it is now on my garden plant wishlist.
