5.0 out of 5 stars My best ever favourite fiction book! 22 Feb 2010
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this book. I initially checked it out of my local library, but after reading it I purchased my own copy! It is just that good.

Sarita is my favorite character of all books that I've read. She was not materialistic nor was she intimidated by Mykal or his wealth.

Everything is romantic, believable and unpredictable. Sarita made Mykal love her by being just who she is. No pretence.

I can't recommend this book enough. It's worth buying. I'm not into reading books over and over again - but this one is worth it! I've read it 3 times and never get bored with the storyline.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow what a book 21 Dec 2009
By Habiba
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This was my second Beverly Jenkins book and it was hot hot hot, I've read it like many times now, lost count after 3. The heat between Mykal and Sarita was unbelievable and you could feel it from reading the book, felt it was quite short and didn't want it to end. I'll be looking forward to reading Walter and Shiley's story too. Keep up the good work Beverly!!

5.0 out of 5 stars MS JENKINS HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!! 6 Feb 2004
By Jennifer Parker - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I have read most of Beverly Jenkins' novel and have yet to be disappointed. I was kind of surprised when I saw that she had written a contemporary novel but because her reputation is so well known for her talent to tell a story, I bought the book anyway. I was not disappointed which really comes at no surprise. I felt like I knew Sarita and Mykal. They are people that I know in my heart. I loved the fact that she kept the story in Detroit, since I'm a native. I especially loved how she incorporated her historical novels with those characters from her contemporary one by making them descendants. I always feel like I'm part of the family when I read her books and she defines the closeknit family unit that is vital to Afrian American culture. And she put Detroit in a good light, though I already knew. The restaurants, the house, the people are not all bad and full of crime EVERYWHERE. And as a native Detroiter, that's what I really appreciated. Madam, if you ever read this, know that you have done it again. May you only soar higher!

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVED THIS BOOK! 6 Feb 2004
By Lisa M. Ward - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I loved this book! Sarita has become one of my favorite heroines of all time! And trust me, that list is not crowded. I loved her tenacity, her spunk. More than anything else, I loved how she saw the beauty in the simplier things in life. She was not materialistic nor was she intimidated by Mykal or his wealth.

Mykal......hmmmmmm, what a man! He first got me on pages 181-182; whispering to Sarita about the lovemaking they possibly shared in past lives. Mmmmm, made me shiver just reading it! Then when she was trying to prepare breakfast Thanksgiving morning! Oh my!! I know I would never look at that kitchen the same anymore!

Sarita made Mykal love her, without much effort. Just simply being who she was, made him see that she was exactly what he needed in his life! I even wanted to cry for him when she was shot.

Saint, oh my, Dark, mysterious and sly. Oh Beverly, I SMELL a sequal. Would love to read about the woman who can bring the elusive one to his knees.

I loved this book! Beverly, your venture into contemprary is definitely a hit! Keep it up!! Once again, I LOVED THIS BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern or Historical - Beverly Jenkins is a Genius 12 Feb 2004
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Beverly Jenkins is an awesome writer. I have read all of her books and can't wait to read future books. I wasn't quite sure that I would like "The Edge of Midnight" when I discovered it would be a modern-day romance novel and not one of her usual historical romance novels, but I should have never doubted Ms. Jenkins. The book starts out with a bang and just get better and better. The two lovers Mykal & Sarita are both strong-willed yet, they compliment each other perfectly and the passion and heat between them radiates from the pages. The addition of mystery, danger, suspense and the great secondary characters make this book a keeper. I can't wait to read Drake's and Saint's story.
Of course the fact that the book is based in my hometown is a extra special gift.
