Review by Paul Wallis author 'Be Thou my Breastplate' 9 Jan 2009
By Paul Wallis - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The body of Celtic literature from the Dark Ages is more than an interesting tonic for the post-modern believer, it spells out an approach to God which hallows the everyday stuff of life, rather than irrelevances it in the way much church-centred spirituality does today.

In this book David Adam re-expresses something of the theology, feeling and spirituality crystallised in that historic body of Celtic literature left to posterity by the spiritual sons and daughters of Patrick, Aidan and Columba. Not only has David Adam done the work of unveiling this spirituality he re-expresses it in prayers honed in the life of community by contemporary Christians.

The Edge of Glory was penned before its author's life became signally wrapped up in the geography and continutiy of the Celtic tradition as Vicar on Aidan's island home of Lindisfarne. This book is evidence enough of why he would have suited so well for that position!

Many books have hinted at the relevance of "Celtic Christianity" to the needs of today's Christians, hungry for authentic forms of spirituality and authentic experiences of Christian community. For me reading 'The Edge of Glory' was the start of a life-changing journey of discovery. I hope it will be so for you, too.

Paul Wallis - author of "BE THOU MY BREASTPLATE - 40 days of giving your life to God the Celtic way!" (Continuum/Paulist) "This serene, superb...book is...a rich gift to the Church." Phyllis Tickle)
