I received this book at lunch time today, and 3 hours later I am still wading through it. If you are seriously into economics / management / business / football - yes, all of these, then this book is un-put-downable. It is well written, clear, academic in tone, and chapters can be read in more or less any order. It is more academic than 'winners & losers' by Szymanski & Kuypers but none the worse for it.

I opened this book and thought i would never be able to read but then things started making sense and at the end of the day I was 100% into it. It's very well-written and emphasizes on the most important points. It's very academic and perhaps things that appear in "Economics of Football" could be confusing for a person who knows little or nothing about economics. However, since i am doing econ at the uni, I find this book really facinating. It inspires me to continue to study Economics!!!

This is very much an academic text. It will not be what the everyday football fan would be expecting. Far from a general text as regards the current financial realities of football in the UK this is an academic textbook which identifies and develops various economic theories as regards the business of sports. Initially these theories come from US sports and given their individual circumstances these are of debatable value to the UK football fan. I personally found this book hard going.
